86694 2002-10-07 03:33:00 They were Back Neck Headphones with micriphone, and volume control.
I didnt seem to have a place for the mike, so I just plugged in the headphone part.

I plugged it into a couple of things into the back of the computer, wich didnt work, so then I plugged it inot a thing on the speakers that said phones. That worked, but the sound was scratchy, so i tried putting it into the one on the CD drive. That didnt work, so I plugged it back into the speaker one, and now that doesnt work either. hmmm.

I unplugged them, and restarted my computer, and now GREAT! I HAVE NO SOUND AT ALL.

Its probably just something wrong i have done, but I liked my sound, and i want it back.

Please Help
Thanks

86695 2002-10-07 03:40:00 I've got headphones with mic - plugged into the headphone connection on my speakers and it works fine.

Few thing to check - sorry but they are low tech things that do happen.

1] Make sure your speakers are still connected to the power (I assume you've got powered speakers). More than once the comparatively heavy AC adapter has worked loose from my power deck making me think my speakers gave given up the ghost.

2] Make sure you've got the volume controls on both sepakers and the little one on the headphones adjusted correctly. I also been caught by forgetting the volume control on the headphone cable. The kids play with it and bingo - I think the speakers have gone west when in fact the kids have just muted the volume on the headphones.

86696 2002-10-07 04:03:00 HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA.

Guess what i did??

I must have bumped the volume control on my speakers, and sice i never use that volume control because its under the desk, i didnt really think about it.

Anyway, I feel an idiot.

But while im here Can you help me with something else??

I cant seem to find a place to plug in the mike part. Were would i put it?
And the sound is pretty scratchy sometimes, do u know how to fix that?

Thanks

86697 2002-10-07 04:32:00 There should be a couple of places on the back.. Line in or Mic... Probably Red or Blue... Try that Chilling_Silence (9)
86698 2002-10-07 04:41:00 Line In is not for microphones, as Line Out is not for headphones.

Line levels are higher impedance and about 0.75v signal. Line out will give very weak, non adjustable sound in headphones. Not useable.. This is where powered speakers (with amplifier in speaker unit) plug in.

Line in is where you would connect Line Out from another unit (such as audio from AV output on a VCR etc)

All sound inputs on PCs here have a Microphone input, but you need to know if its compatable with your headset mic. Some have a "stereo" 3.5mm socket that provides a voltage for a capacitor type microphone, and this could possibly damage a non-"electret" microphone, which also would not work.

How do you tell if your sound input is this type? Without seriously invading the innards, I guess its RTFM
