86923 2002-10-08 03:29:00 I am not trying to highjack this topic/thread. My intuition tells me Maryann is having a problem with Zone Alarm. Trust me. Romany. :8} Romany (2172)
86924 2002-10-08 04:02:00 Yes....yes....prob with Zone Alarm....Downloaded....updated...whatever I did this a.m, but really should have waited for help. Thought it was just going to be as easy as AVG, which "does it's own thing" and then I ignore it.....to a degree.
Did NOT understand all the screens that came on, but will do the tutorial later. Must stop this "LATER" business....as I end up with 3-4-5 seriously difficult things to look at, and can't get sorted.
Need to know where to look to see if fire wall is too high....is that the tech. word for "IT"??? Messages are getting through now, but also spam. Do you all do as Baldy suggested.....???Some of you.....??.?:| ?:|
Think I need my own private f1 site, to clear the Q's....:8} :8} SUSAN B......do you take in temp.boarders???

86925 2002-10-08 04:13:00 Just get your head around one thing at a time Maryann, otherwise you'll get yourself in a terrible mess. :O

You solved the Outlook Express "Preview" problem, didn't you? That is, you no longer have Preview enabled? Good. Tick that one off. ;-)

SPAM: We've got a FAQ on that... Yes, some of the people here do as Baldy does and use Mailwasher. I don't because my spam is manageable. You do whatever suits you - if your Inbox is full of it, use Mailwasher. If you only get 5-10 a day and you know it is spam without opening it then that is "managable" in my view. Your view may differ though.

ZoneAlarm: can't help as I don't use it. Post another thread detailing your query and you'll get help from others.

Remember: one thing at a time, and one topic per thread. You'll get there. ;-)

86926 2002-10-08 04:38:00 Susan, I tend to use Mailwasher to read "strange" emails off the server - in preference to opening in Outlook Express and running the risk of infecting my computer with a virus. Baldy (26)
86927 2002-10-08 05:15:00 Thanks again, Susan. Keep my feet on the ground....yes....got 1 part right today....that must be good....I asked you before if you take "boarder's" ?....or do I have to keep my little bed in FAQ's.!!! Cheers! Sure the grandchildren will be proud of me!! Maryann (2010)
86928 2002-10-08 07:31:00 Sorry Baldy, I thought it was just for spam. Thanks for correcting that. :-)

Maryann, we all take "boarders" here, if you mean giving advice, so no need to keep your bed in the FAQs. We just refer people there when it's practical to save us getting OOS (otherwise known as RSI). :-)

86929 2002-10-08 10:27:00 MSWORKS saves word processing files (like letters) as XXX.WPS.

Do a search for *.wps on all drives and it should bring up a list of files you have saved. Older versions of MSWorks save these file in
"C:\Programs\MSWorks\Documents\" by default.

HTH = Hope This Helps. :-)

86931 2002-10-11 04:47:00 The WPS files were about the only one that hadn't been answered.

HTH. :-)

86932 2002-10-11 04:51:00 And remember Maryann: "Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you..."

The computer will always bite you if you turn your back. :D
