2002-10-07 20:24:00 | I downloaded Opera a few days ago, explored it a bit but found it was a bit cluttered on my desktop and wouldn't open a chat room I frequent so I went back to using IE 6. Have left it on my system as I'm afraid to uninstall it as haveing the "threat" of Opera on my system seems to have doubled the speed of my IE 6 which is just romping along and opening pages with surprising speed. Has anyone else noticed this phenomenen? | Danger (287) | |
2002-10-07 23:49:00 | >cluttered on my desktop ??? don't know about that. as far as IE6 speed goes i doubt it has anything to with opera. i wonder if its due to it not being used not having to keep such a large amount of history. mayby fine tune the settings a bit.

2002-10-08 06:23:00 | Only keep history one day, clear out temp file regualaly, only tried Opera for a couple of hours on Sat night, no other changes but my IE is flying! Particulaly notice able on one graphics intensive site I visit every day, but also noticable on this site and every other site I have visited. I am not imagining this! As too Opera being cluttered, IE for instance has only about 20mm at top off screen taken up by the tool bars and title bar where as Opera takes up about 60mm-80mm with the tool bars and the advertisement box.

2002-10-08 06:29:00 | you didn't explore it enough! Opera is very customisable, the toolbars can be removed if you don't use them, or can be changed to small icons, or just text... I find Opera much nicer to use, and love that you can have (literally) 100 windows open at once but only 1 button for it on your taskbar. Until I met Opera I was a diehard IE fan, I never liked netscape etc very much. Rock on Opera! As for the ad box, well, if you used your nose a bit... (or google.com...) Before you uninstall opera check it's features out a bit more, you might come to like them.

2002-10-08 06:48:00 | I have Opera 6.5 and don't have any advertising boxes. Where did you get the browser from? My Opera browser takes up 33 mm of title/tools/address area compared with IE6's 30 mm. I love Opera so much that it is now my default browser. Having Google on the side is handy and the "New" function to open up extra windows is great. Stick with Opera a bit longer (and try to get an ad free version). Cheers Jen

2002-10-08 07:07:00 | 6.5 or 6.05? I'm sure the latest is 6.05... it sould have ads, unless you find a clever way to remove them... like paying the sub fee :D

2002-10-08 07:20:00 | I definitely have version 6.5 according to Help "About IE Opera". I didn't pay for it either. Tweak'e mentioned in one of his daily news about Opera 6.5 and I followed that link and downloaded from that site. I hunted out that news post and clicked on the link (which when hovered over displays as www.ieopera.com/download.htm) but this link now redirects you to www.avantbrowser.com/download.htm which is Gorilla. Did I strike it lucky and get a full ad-free version by mistake?

2002-10-08 07:25:00 | aaahhhhh.... nope, you are using a different browser i think. IE Opera is not Opera. I'm not exactly sure about it, but I think someone crossed IE with Opera (maybe?).

2002-10-08 07:31:00 | Oh God, how embrassing! :8} Yes, now you mention it, I did read that IE Opera is a "Hybrid" cross. Oh well, IE Opera is lovely anyway (free and ad free!) Thanks Jen

2002-10-08 07:47:00 | IE opera is nothing much more than an opera skin onto IE. personally- if you start off modifing crap you are going end up with......;-) opera (there is a free adware ver) is a whole lot better. :)
