87411 2002-10-09 02:33:00 Ever got annoyed by those tracks on your music cd's that keep skipping... or do you keep getting the message on your comptuer..."system cannot read from the specified device?"

Well here is the solution..... Car Polish!
Rub the cd with carpolish and then get a Soft! cloth.
Clean the cd outwards with a bit of elbow grease until all the polish is gone. Afterwards do the same but instead of using car polish use toothpaste! Rub this around for a few minutes and then clean the cd carefully. Remembering to always rub outwards!

This really works well .... I have had lots of god results :D
Happy Cleaning.......oh and i have also found that non-runny (waxy) car polishes work the best!:-)

87414 2002-10-09 08:20:00 A guy I met once who imported CD polishing machines reckoned that the surface that is not printed on is less important than the one that is.
The actual dots are just below the printed side and scratches on that side knacker CDs real quick - as a guy found out who scratched his name onto Gran Turismo 2.
As for the other side, don't use jif.

quite true :) I ripped apart a CD a couple of weeks ago (first coaster) and pulled the label off, and all it left me with was a plastic see-through disk :)

87416 2002-10-09 09:34:00 yep exactly robo. seen to many people put names on their disks and stuff their disks.

there is a few firms who repair cd's and dvd but not if the printed side is damaged.

87417 2002-10-09 09:51:00 If the top coating gets removed that's when you pull out the tinfoil* :D

With most of the coasters I get I scrape them back to just the clear plastic and use them on the table :D

*not sure if it works

87418 2002-10-09 10:20:00 True. The info is just under the label. Thats why polishing the other side is OK to remove scratches. (and, JM, tinfoil will not replace the data layer)

Toothpaste and a soft cloth, followed by warm soapy water and a dry with a lint free cloth works well.

87420 2002-10-09 20:26:00 God almighty, how much would one of those kits cost?

Wouldn't it be easier to just look after the discs in the first place.... ie: put them back in the covers after use, and not leaving them strewn accross the floor or over the desk top.
