87349 2002-10-08 23:59:00 Hi - I have just done a online virus scan with Trend Micro . It tells me I have a virus called PE Magistr . A in my Restore Archive that it cannot delete or clean . I have AVG running usually and I did have that virus which I thought AVG had cleaned and deleted . This was a couple of months ago . AVG tells me that the computer is clean of viruses and there is nothing in my virus vault .

The online scan told me that it was unable to clean the file because it was currently in use .

Any ideas as to how I can get rid of this?

Thanks

ps - I think this site is great and everyone has been so helpful!

87350 2002-10-09 00:04:00 Disable your Restore function .

This should delete your store points, but if the virus is in a historical restore file you wouldnt want to restore it anyway .

Then re-enable it .

No idea what you are running for OS, but look in your help files for info on disabling/re-enabling .

87353 2002-10-09 09:28:00 ALso note that while that virus is in youre _RESTORE folder, it can't do much damage, it can come back to life if you do use the restore function, however if you don't use it for a while, then the infected file will disappear as the restore function goes through it's usuall purge.

So for the record: a virus in the _RESTORE folder, is not an immediate threat.
