| 87163 | 2002-10-08 04:36:00 | I recently fomatted my HD and coincidently , perhaps, my CD writer has stopped working. It wont even open. Could it be that it needs drivers to operate. It is an Imogena mrw 8432 and my OS is win 98se | veterannz (960) | ||
| 87164 | 2002-10-08 05:35:00 | could be a driver problem, but the drive won't even open? That's a new one. I'll try to find more out , but others should be able to help. cheers, v.K---------------- :D |

If not, check cable connections including swapping if possible. if no change, time for a replacement. If recognised, continue. Boot off the Windows 98SE startup disk and watch what happens. If the CD drive is recognised, ensure you can access it in DOS. If not, time for replacement. If recognised, reinstall windows. Watching the little lights helps too - indicates possble life |

| 87166 | 2002-10-08 10:05:00 | If the cd tray wont even open it's a bit of a worry, I forsee 3 possibilities a:) the cd drive is stuffed and requires replacement or repair. b:) your power connector to the drive is damaged or not connecting properly, either perhaps the connectors on the cd writer itself or the one from the psu. c:) tray is somehow jammed, see if you can push it open with a pin in the small hole under the tray. Cd-rom drives will open and be operable in dos or even in bios regardless whether you have a driver for it, it will still have power. seems strange to me, go into your setup for your biosm, does it identify your hard drive and the cd rom under basic features? |
