2002-10-09 23:41:00 | Hi Bubbyboy, I have been reading up on hiw RPCMAN works . to work your PC needs to have a "SCSI emulation layer in the kernel" . What this means is that you will need to install ASPI drivers on your PC first . Head over to the Adaptec Web Site ( . adaptec . com/worldwide/support/drivers_by_product . html?sess=no&cat=%2fProduct%2fASPI-4 . 70&prodkey=Windows+ASPI+Package" target="_blank">www . adaptec . com) . Choose your operating system . Download and Install the drivers . Reboot your Pc and try again . Thanks Jess

2002-10-10 09:48:00 | ok lets see if i can trim this all down a bit- there are many different ways the dvd is gets region locked. 1)actuall drive firmware. to "unlock it" you need to find a modified firmware and flash the drive. some dvd drive are a little easier as it can be just a jumber settings. once the drive hasused its 5 gos firmware upgrades will not work. 2) windows itself has a region codeing 3)the dvd software player has it own region codeing which (and the windows one) can be reset by various programs like region kill, dvd genie etc. there is also the software which is spose to be able to make region locked drives use other zones but i don't know anyone who has confirmed it works. one last thing, useing cracked firmware will void any warranty.

2002-10-10 12:34:00 | BubbyBoy Tweake is quite right . There are only 2 things needed . 1 . DVD Firmware to make it Region Free 2 . Software "patch" to reset your DVD Player . BOTH need to be done in order to play any region's DVD Windows itself does not have any region coding protection . Its the the software playing the DVD which incorporates DVD protection . The most important thing being existence of RPC-1 firmware for your DVD player to make it region free . Unless your drive was made before Jan/2000 all DVD players have RPC2 protection if it doesnt exist well then its tough unless you want to try using the very closest one to match your model number . But i suggest you DO NOT try this as any mismatch more than likely toasts your drive . The second thing is very easy . Just use DVD genie or any similar program . This is a "software" reset which just fools e . g Win DVD . It can be found anywhere on the net . The sites listed by others for firmware is where i got firmware for my Pioneer DVD player . Some DVD's like the Asus one from DSE just need a flick of the jumper to make it region free . But you also need the "software" patch to make it work . And yeah you will surely void warranty of your DVD player . I only know of PC-Tech in Auck who do firmware flash for you and still provide warranty for your DVD drive :) Cheers

2002-10-10 21:27:00 | >Windows itself does not have any region coding protection err... it does. very seldom used and most "software reset programs" have an optoin to reset it as well.

2002-10-10 21:34:00 | Have you tried elby.ch Killer[/url]? I've been told that it works usually (I can't verify this myself though, cause I have a region-free drive). Mike.

2002-10-10 22:01:00 | Yes you can change the DVD setting up to 5-9 times. For example DELL computers can chage up to 5 times. I think it is illegal to download such a patch that will alow to play in any region. Because it is designed only to DVDs in spacific DVD players
