| 87689 | 2002-10-10 03:52:00 | I have contracted the JS.exception.exploit virus whereby a website instals itself on my start page in Explorer. Norton did not identify it so I followed Nortons instructions on how to delete it. Go to Registry HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main Delete Delete the suspicious web pages in:- Start Page Search Page Default_Page_URL Default_Search_URL I found two suspicious pages one being the bane of everyones life 'jethomepage' and the problem one 'dating_search'. On booting up earlier five blank windows appeared 'Auto DOS prompts' then disappeared. I deleted the suspicious pages from all values but they return each time I boot up. I can only guess that the virus has become more virulent and is now affecting DOS. Could someone please advise any procedures that I might follow to get rid of all this. Many Thanks Jeff |

| 87690 | 2002-10-11 08:21:00 | Hey OK (Second time lucky - first time I had this nice long reply AND IE STUFFED UP) You have read the: Symantec Security Response (securityresponse.symantec.com) and the Downloaded the Microsoft Patch (www.microsoft.com) If done the above and failed then: Run through MSConfig Start > Run > MSCONFIG and remove any items that are not needed in there. If that doesn't work notify me and I'll give you the locations for the Startup Files located in the registry that aren't seen in MSCONFIG Thanks Matt |

| 87691 | 2002-10-11 08:44:00 | That's a worry Jeffers. Norton picked up JS.exception no trouble at all when it tried to enter my computer during a recent web surfing expedition. Are your definitions up to date and are you sure your AV installation is correctly configured? Cheers Billy 8-{) |
