87617 2002-10-10 00:00:00 After reinstalling win2k, I knew I was going to lose all of my applications, but not my files. So All I had to do to get my computer back to "normal" was run all of the install programs for the desired programs and then I had all the files back too. this was true for every program except for Outlook 2k. After reinstalling photoshop, i was able to access all of my images again. But after reinstalling Outlook 2k, i was NOT able to access my old emails, or my contact list.

Does anyone know how to help me? I've got tons of valuable info in those emails, and the only reason I didn't back any of that stuff up is because my computer crashed before had a chance to, and i had to reinstall windows with a boot disk.

Is there maybe a directory on my hard drive where emails are stored that i could find? any help would be greatly appreciated. please email me at kdrew@uni.edu if you can give me a hand. thank you.

87618 2002-10-10 03:02:00 My Dad had this problem. If you Uninstall Outlook, it takes away your emails, so if thats what you have done, then you could be stuffed. But there is a hope, if you have been archiving your emails.

C:\Windows\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\
Check there, and tell me whats in the folder.
If you dont have that folder tell me, because different Windows put it in different places.

support.microsoft.com
Check here for more detail.

If you have a file called archive, you might have got most of your email back.
If there is a file called outlook, and its quite a big file, you might have all your emails there.

If you go here
support.microsoft.com
It will tell you how to back up your emails, so this doesnt happen again.

87619 2002-10-10 03:44:00 Do a search for *.pst and *.pab those are your files.
Hopefully there should be at least two of the same sort
First look for the dates the older (and bigger) one should be the original emails.

You can import from another folder through file | Import. pab is your Personal Address Book.

Find those files and you struck gold

87620 2002-10-10 03:50:00 Search for the files with the extensions pab and pst .

By default the files are, in Windows 2000, located in C:\Documents and Settings\<<user>>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook where <<user>> is the user name used when logging on .

To view the usually hidden folder, show hidden folders and files .

If the files have been overwritten, the data is lost .
