I have Windows XP Prof and am running Norton Antivirus 2000. In Norton under Options, Liveupdate I have enabled automatic liveupdate and set it to Notify when updates are available. However, I am not being notified that the updates are new and ready to download. When I activate Liveupdate manually it says I am up to date. Also 'Under Virus Definitions' it says 9/10/2002 as the date of update. I used to be notified and asked if I wanted to update (which is the way I prefer it), but having said that I cannot remember if that was on my current computer (as I have recently updated). It was certainly the case on my old computer running Windows 98 and Norton 2000. Any ideas? How can I tell if I have the new definitions? Are there certain file names to look out for and if so where are they placed? Years ago I downloaded them manually and could tell by the file name as to the date of the definition. |

I believe the virus defs are found under program files\common files\symantec shared\virus defs. |

Hi Oxie.I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that XP needs NAV 2002 to work properly. |

My apologies Neil McG. I meant to write I have Norton 2002 and not 2000. Thanks SaAB for the path of where the liveupdate files are stored. I checked and I do have a folder in there called 20021009.003 and heaps of files dated 9/10/2002. So I guess then that Liveupdate is in fact updating but without seeking my approval to download first. Thanks for your help. |

with nav there is 2 optoins....change it to "notify when updates advailable".
note you will have to manualluy update to get program updates. some virus updates may not be advailable untill you do the program updates. |

Tweake, I have it set to "Notify when updates are available" so that I can download them manually using liveupdate. However, they are obviously downloading without notifying me. Within the last week there was an update to the program which I downloaded in Liveupdate. Maybe that is preventing the program from notifying me. Has anyone else who has it set to Notify had their definitions (9/10/2002) downloaded without them knowing? |
