87464 2002-10-09 08:31:00 My virus software has found the bugbear virus. I downloaded the fix and have gotten rid of it but now when I do a virus check it tells me that a file in windows called c:\WINDOWS\VCM\MSHTML.TLB is Corrupted.
Can anyone tell me what this file is, what it is used for or how I repair it.
I have reloaded IE6 but that doesn't seem to help.

Please help me.

Nicola.

87465 2002-10-09 09:06:00 Well, I can tell you that MSHTML is an acronym for "Microsoft HTML" which displays information in HyperText Markup Language.

.TLB could be an OLE type library files (Microsoft)

I got all this off Google - have no idea what it means for your problem sorry.

87466 2002-10-09 09:24:00 I have had problems with dirty ol MSHTML before, and yes it is an important file. If you have WinME, you will find that you will pretty much be able to do nothing, including a system restore (The boys at Microsoft was thinking when they designed that weren't they!)

If you have Win98, you might be ok, don't know as i havn't had experiences with it in win98

Basically your gonna need to restore it from your Windows CD, to get everything running again.
type "msconfig" in your run box
then select extract file and type in MSHTML.DLL
note how the file is actually a .DLL (i think)
Note: do this after you have gotten rid of the quarantened file.

now you say yours is MSHML.TLB this could be because the virus has changed the extension on it.

If the above doesn't work , try reinstalling windows also
