| 88052 | 2002-10-11 04:31:00 | Hi, I quik question. I have 2 PC's n/w. 1 PC has Norton firewall, the other Sygate PF, on the sygate one, i can ping the NF one with no probs, however, on teh NF one, when i ping teh sygate one, it comes up "request timed out" also, i can transfer files from SPF to NF, but not the other way round. My current setting on SPF is "normal", but when i change it to "allow all" EVERY thing works fine (ping, file transfer etc). I have selected yes to both options in SPF about networking... So, is there a way for my network to work with my firewall setting still on Normal? Cheers |

There will be a way to set up to allow hosts on your local network "192.168.x.y" to have full access. Is there a reason to have a firewall on both? Do both have direct access to the Internet? If not, a firewall on the one which does talk to the world, and a proxy server providing access to the other should be enough protection. I think. ;-) |

Do you no a way to set it up to allow the local network? i've had a quik look through - couldn't find anything - and i don't no much about N/W's, already have stuffed it once (had to reinstall) so i thought its best to come straight here ;) |

| 88056 | 2002-10-11 10:53:00 | Have a look at Options. It appears that it is necessary to put a tick in the Allow others to share my files and printer(s). This should allow you Nortons machine to access the files on Sygate. A more secure method would be to access Advanced Rules and set up a "Rule" or "Rules" specific to your Norton PC. To do this select Add, check the Allow Traffic, select the driver (IP address) in the drop-down menu. On the Hosts page select the MAC address option and enter the MAC address of the Norton PC. You should be able to find the network cards MAC address in System Information, |
