88008 2002-10-11 01:07:00 My second PC has finally died and I'm pretty certain the Soltek MB is the culprit, since I 've tried swapping out all the assorted combonents and nothing makes a difference - the puppy never even gets as far as a video signal (yes, tried other video cards).

So it looks like I need a replacement board. The board does not need to be anything flash - in fact I'm looking for a quality budget MB here. Needs to power a Celeron 800Mhz with 128MB PC133 RAM.

Anyone got any suggestions as to a good board to get for such a PC?

88011 2002-10-11 01:52:00 Hey Bruce,

I recommend you and anyone else to look at http://www.pricespy.co.nz for the best prices of computer parts (cpu, mobo, ram, etc) and where to go to get them.

One that I would recommend which is good to use for budget PCs is the MSI MS-6368L mobo which has onboard LAN, Sound and Video but I usually build computers with this board if money is the subject and they don't want to fork out more for LAN, graphics and sound.

You've probably got all the parts like graphics and sound and probably a NIC but you can still check out all the other boards listed at pricespy and find one which suits you.

88013 2002-10-11 02:41:00 Ya, the wife's PC. And the kids'. They'll all using mine at the moment - oh the torment.

Already got NIC, video, sound etc. Problem is, I was kinda banking on getting a new video card for myself this month, since Combat Flight Sim 3 will be arriving. So I don't (cough cough) want to lavish too much dosh on this MB, since that would kind off kill my video card purchase :-)

Asus TUSI-M, Tualatin, Socket. 370

Optional onboard LAN though AFAIK, not too sure though.

Nice m/board, onboard graphics.

It'll set you back about $150 though.

Not the cheapest board you'd find, but a good one. Health monitoring software, AFAIK, in the BIOS also...

Look it up

Cheers
