| 87856 | 2002-10-10 19:34:00 | How do I remove this nasty piece of trash: www.underlolitas.com which has taken over my Internet Explorer home page every time I start my PC?!? I'm a relative novice to the inner workings of my machine, but I've looked into the registry, and found this item in various areas, viz. HKEY_CURRENT_USER Software Microsoft Internet Explorer Search URL; Main Search Bar; Main Search Page; Search CustomizeSearch; Search SearchAssistant; HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE Software Microsoft Internet Explorer Search URL; Main Search Bar; Main Search Page; Main Start Page; Search CustomizeSearch; Search SearchAssistant. If I change the values to ClearNet for example, the trash comes back next boot: if I delete the values from Registry, the trash comes back next boot!! Also, I use an unaltered Win98 OS + Office 97, and want to bring everything up to latest spec (patches, fixes, whatever) - I've never been too happy dealing with MS, but feel I should try to tidy up portions of my system now. Along with that goes the over-riding question of what should be done with the fragments of programs / code lurking onboard after many years of use? Your expertise will be appreciated, ta! |

Reformatting will certainly get rid of your hijacked home page and clear out all the program fragments . Your PC will also run faster and you can update Windows on a nice clean PC . If you decide to do this have a look at the FAQs for advice for formatting and also check the hijacked home page FAQ for advice on how to prevent this happening again . Do remember that you will lose all your data and settings in a reformat so you need to plan it carefully and back up all you want to keep . If you don't want to reformat check out the Registry FAQ for tips on cleaning it out . |

(Wanders off dreaming about waking to find house infested with playmates of the month ;) or even Lotto managers waving enormous cheques. Hell, even Readers Digest managers waving enormous cheques would do :^O Cheers Billy 8-{P :D :D :D |
