88165 2002-10-12 01:00:00 Hello there

Um, how did you get this months calendar on screen?

Thanks....John.

88166 2002-10-12 01:06:00 Oh, alright then :8}

I wouldn't normally reveal my underpinnings in public, but so much Press F1 openness plus Susan's gentle persuasion (threatening to withhold my meds) has convinced me that now is the moment.

Win98 original, P166, 192MB, mainstay of my fleet (even though I have newer & much faster boxes to play with). Call me loyal!

A screen shot of Old Faithful's desktop can be seen

Here (www.mscandy.orcon.net.nz)

I call it "Randomised Organisation":O

Cheers

88167 2002-10-12 01:13:00 John W,
The LCD clock?
Thats the standard SuSE8/ KDE desktop, as seen on the nastiest screen i own.. So what you see is what you get if you run SuSE-Linux, and set up everything by the defaults. BTW, thats the standard backround for being logged in as "root" hense the bomb to remind me of how much damage i've done while there have been no restrictions on system access!

88168 2002-10-12 01:25:00 The calendar on my desktop is 'courtesy' of the Webshots Desktop - www.webshots.com. Set up, it looks after itself. R.M. (561)
88169 2002-10-12 01:35:00 OK -I'm going to be a bit mean here, but understand this is meant to be constructive criticism, and personal preference rules over your choices, so if you don't like wwhat I have to say, then ignore me.

Kiwitas - clean alright, but BORING!

JenC, Robo, JZEP - stretch your images, or choose a better background colour than that awful green or grey!!!

Johnboy - looking OK - nice and clean!

segfault = nice! what distro is that???

I am amazed at the mess some people have on there desktops!!! I wonder if their houses look the same??? (Billy - how do you get anything done??? :))

And so that I am not closing myslef to criticism, here is mine:

(Note this is an old one from last month, I haven't got around to changing it, but I have a few ideas up my sleeve for improvements and will post them when done)

High Res 1024x819 (knightguider.orcon.net.nz)

Low Res 800x640 (knightguider.orcon.net.nz)

88171 2002-10-12 01:40:00 Graham Petrie,
my home is often described as a "bombsite", seeing you "wondered".
I prefer to call it the demolition site infront of the cave.

> sometime! I have Moto-X madness 2 tho.

Thanks for the invitation Danger.

I looked at your desktop. Wow!, good one!. I think I would fall off at the start line just thinking about that picture. :^O :^O

I'm an oldie newbie (67yrs), not much good at games, but still quite competent at actual trail riding in spite of my age.

I have only tinkered with the MC Madness game and don't know anything about on line gaming, so I would be a pathetic competitor for you. So far, my bravest web adventure has been participating on the Press f1 forum. :-) :-)

Cheers.

Had to smudge out a few confidential filenames, other than that its my everyday desktop.

If anyone else needs space; I've got 70 megs free on my server, just e-mail your pics to desktop@farr.net.nz .

Cheers

88174 2002-10-12 02:44:00 Thats actually Gnu/Segfault Linux 2.1 - my own distro. I built it all from scratch using Linux From Scratch (http://www.linuxfromscratch.org) 3.3. Its going to be rebuilt with the not yet released gcc-3.3 (Think faster compile times than 2.x) and the not yet released KDE-3.1 and using LFS-4.0 as the base. Everything is optimised for my specific processor (i686) and everything has been linked combreloc - put simply, it makes mostly c++ code run much faster (and so does gcc-3.x). KDE also has anti-aliased fonts.

The screenshot is of a highly optimised KDE-3.0.2 with the connectiva liquid crystal theme and mosfets liquid theme.
