| 87831 | 2002-10-14 08:06:00 | got to agree with rod_ger here, i've tried to install stuff on my mandrake distro, but there wasn't too much out there that was explained in a fashion i could understand - there isn't even a huge amount on shell scripts, and i thought that was one of the advantages of linux over windows. i got apache running ok (i think) but i did have two top quality books plus the apache site as a guide, but my system fell over when i tried to install an ftp server from sourceforge. there was no english userguide i could understand. i can do the basics (and i mean <<real>> basics), but when i wanted to run server stuff like ftp, http & mail, tcpwrappers and other firewall stuff so i could learn about linux like i know windows, it was a mission to sort throught the often useless, hard to decipher or non-english info on the web. i don't expect it to be easy - i've taken years to learn my ms-skills, but still... </rant> markOS X |
