87867 2002-10-10 20:20:00 Hi all, We have 3 PC's networked in different parts of the house using XP ME and 98. When we play LAN games there's always a lot of shouting from room to room. Is there such a thing as a LAN voice server, similar to what messenger does but without the need for the internet? I would prefer shareware of free ware because it's not something we'd use often, but it would stop my wife complaining ;) crozier (2004)

87869 2002-10-10 21:18:00 Try the following freeware.

I use this all the time while playing games on the internet. Very reliable.

You can also use Microsoft Game Voice software but the freeware I think is limited to 4 users

There is the old but popular Battlecom

A lot of people swears by TeamTalk but for some reason I can't remember its URL (sorry)

There are heaps more but these are a few that I know of that online gamers like.

87870 2002-10-10 21:23:00 Note re the software I mentioned. You will of course need a microphone.

BTW - I use Roger Wilco to talk to my brother who is in Asia. Saves having to make a toll call. We tried Netmeeting but it was hopeless. Roger Wilco gave us the best voice quality (without Video of course).

87872 2002-10-10 22:37:00 Thanks nzStan, I'll try them this weekend. crozier (2004)
87873 2002-10-10 23:33:00 No worries. Drop me a line here or at my forum demonz.kiwiclub.com if you need help with Roger Wilco. To use RW on LAN, one of you need to host the session, then have the others join the host IP address (or PC hostname). nzStan (440)
