88459 2002-10-12 01:09:00 Hi All,
just got a new pc on Wednesday - Via P4PB mb, P4 2.4 CPU, 512 Mb dr333 Ram, GeForce MX440 64mb graphics running XP home. Mostly seems to work okay (well, a lot faster than I'm used to actually) but at least 4 times now the PC has just suddenly rebooted. Once during the loading of some (M$) software, and at least once during a download. A message comes up telling me I've had a nasty failure, and tries to send a report off to M$. (I don't have the details of the report.) Where do I start to look for the problem? Could I have loaded incompatible drivers? Is the Mobo faulty? Please advise.
regards,
andy.

88460 2002-10-12 01:18:00 Have you installed the infamous VIA 4in1 drivers :D ? Most system will run unstable without this 4in1 thingy.

Cheers

88461 2002-10-12 01:42:00 Yes, I installed the drivers provided with the mobo. When I did this, a message box informed me that these did not have the blessing of M$ and asked if I wanted to continue anyway, which I did. Should I be looking for updated drivers already?

88462 2002-10-12 06:39:00 It could be a temperature problem, grab a copy of motherboard monitor from http://mbm.livewiredev.com/

Since its new I would just take it back to the shop because they should have sold a working system.

88463 2002-10-13 01:52:00 Thanx,
I didn't buy a system - just put the bits together. I've just reformatted and rebuilt and all seems well now (touch wood). I loaded both 98se and xp and can now dual boot to run the software that wasn't xp compatable and will see how things go.
