88336 2002-10-11 11:16:00 I decided it was time to get rid of some temp files after reading about them in PressF1. I did a search on “temp” in the C drive and come up with “Temp” folders (and other folders with “temp” in the text Temporary Internet files, Templates etc). In some of the Temp folders, I discovered some rather large text files and was wondering what they were and if, being in a temp folder, they where candidates for deletion. 2 of the files are (WinXP Home) \Local Settings\Temp\pihp(0004)_MsiExec.txt and Word 2002 Setup(0001)_Task(0001).txt. These are the 2 largest at 17410KB and 4.2MB respectivly. Both of these files are also present in each family members account in 2 different folders as well as \windows\system32\... Are they OK to delete or should they be left. Craigb (688)

When were the files last accessed? Check that. If it was the day Word was installed for the Word one, then kill it. The 17Mb one sounds utterly excessive.

As a rule, anything in the temp folder is recycle-bin fodder.

88338 2002-10-11 23:04:00 I put MsiExec.txt into Google and got this (www.microsoft.com) page. Do a search for the same to find it on that page, but it appears that it's part of the SP-1 installation files. Same for the other ones.

If you had no problems with your SP installation then it will be safe to delete those files. Like robo says, anything in the Temp folder is able to be deleted (not the folder itself though) but you are wise to check first.
