| 88546 | 2002-10-13 07:18:00 | I tried typing in the Registry settings but then I couldn't get exes to run even through the Run window. Fortunately I was able to get into DOS mode and use REGEDIT from there to delete the exefile entry. I tried this twice, and was VERY careful to get them right so I suspect another setting was wrong. I then rang my brother who told me about SCANREG. Apparently SCANREG is a Windows 98 utility that automatically runs on each boot and saves a copy of the registry, so all I did in the end was to boot into DOS mode and run: SCANREG /RESTORE This gave me a choice of registry dates, and I simply picked one from before my infestation and restored. Finally everything was back to normal - exes and all YAY! :) :). I then ran the virus checker again and I've STILL got BugBear in... C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\lvfagqf.dll The virus checker finds it but is unable to clean it. I believe the Symantec site has a cleaner specifically for BugBear so I'll try that next. |
