88396 2002-10-11 19:31:00 Delp me i have XP pro (and getting ready to give it the boot!!)
Sometimes when i boot the computer, it starts windows, exept, only the taskbar shows, the desktop is blank and only shows the background colour. When i try to use a quick-launch button, for example, connect to the internet, the quick-launch button stays 'depressed' until, about 5 minutes later, i hear the windows startup sound that you normally hear when you start windows. During that boring 5 minutes, the hard drive is not doing anything, its like it just 'hangs' most of the time the keyboard (stupid compaq usb) does not work until i hear the windows sound. The other day the mouse - get this - F-R-O-Z-E!!! Never have i seen a modern operating system (from 98se-xp) actually freeze the mouse! Thats the sort of thing that used to happen to the old school computers 10 years ago! Any way, this is extreeeeemley annoying when it happens, ive even tried reinstalling suspicious programs (like norton utilities) to see if they are causing the problem. I dont have any way to bakup my settings (still waiting for a CDRW) and files so i can reformat and possibly get a bigger (than 20GB) Hard drive. And might i add that i hate the following comanies;
Canon (super-slack-service: will never make an xp driver for MPC20)
Compaq (Incredibly stupid; no modem or jbl sound drivers for 98se)
Microsoft (stupid OS's are never compatible with everything)

And thank the following comanies;
Mustek (provided an XP driver for 1200ub plus scanner
thank for any help

88397 2002-10-11 23:07:00 Is your mouse a USB one? If so, that may be the cause of your problems because other people here have had problems with them. Or maybe your USB keyboard?

They might require new drivers for Win XP or maybe they need to be changed to the serial ports? Just a suggestion, maybe someone else may know more.
