| 88638 | 2002-10-12 21:22:00 | Running ME The dialup launches automatically very early in the startup sequence. I have checked MSCONFIG and nothing in there appears to be connected to the problem. Zone Alarm doesn't show anything actually using the connection once it is established. Have turned off the " Connect Automatically" As usual any assistance greatly appreciated. |

| 88639 | 2002-10-12 21:44:00 | There are quite a few threads on this topic already. The problem is that Zone Alarm is attempting to find an IP address by doing a DNS request. I'm not sure if the latest version still has this problem though. If it doesn't it is necessary to remove Zone Alarm from your system prior to installing the latest version. Merely updating the existing or slightly earlier version means that the DNS bug is kept and Zone Alarm continues to try to find out the address of lockup.zonelabs.com. |

Install Wintop - comes as part of Win95 kernel toys from MS - works fine on 98 so should be good for ME as well - running this will show you accurately what processes are running once you've started up - this will show you what the culprit is. It's a great little app to warn you of spyware, trojans etc. |
