88653 2002-10-13 00:42:00 Last week my AVG virus scanner told me that I had a bugbear virus in my recycle bin and after a lot of messing about, i thought that I had got rid of it.

Now, when my PCcillin virus scanner did its check on Friday, it says the following -

C:/_Restore/archive/FS1212.CAB(A0225488.CPY)Bugbear.A unable to clean.

Action on uncleanable files is to quarantine.

I use Windows ME.

WHAT SHOULD I DO - PLEASE HELP!!!!

88654 2002-10-13 01:07:00 I'm no ME expert, but I suspect that the file you mention is from the System Restore thing. I'd be inclined to delete.

....... but wait for the ME gurus

88655 2002-10-13 01:14:00 JM's right, the virus is still in your system restore backup files.

Visit Symantec and download their bugbear removal tool

ps don't know how others post an address as a hyperlink, maybe some smart cookie will let me in on the secret

88656 2002-10-13 01:39:00 Neelyar: this is how to , but your way is probably safer ... I will try to set it up: like this -- which did work! (securityresponse.symantec.com)

Click on the Formatting Options above the Reply panel to see what you can do. The URL is done by [ u r l = h t t p ://address.of.the.site/ ] and a label [ / u r l ] . (I've put in spaces to stop it working.)

Unfortunately, sometimes, usually in longish URLs, there are extra characters inserted "automatically", :-( things like "
" or 'bgcolor="fff000000"" stop URLs working).

Use the Preview to see the results ... and moving the cursor to the link will display the result in the status line at the bottom of your screen.

88657 2002-10-13 01:39:00 neelyar,

When you are replying to a post or creating a new new one... see the Formatting Options for how to quote URL's.

Cheers, Babe.

88658 2002-10-13 01:53:00 Hmmmm... That was relevant... NOT! what relevance does that have to bugbear? bRaZZiN (2228)
88659 2002-10-13 01:56:00 Anyways, how about disabling system restore? it sux on winME, I have it disabled. I s'pose I'll see you @skool 2 morrow, Brendan... bRaZZiN (2228)
88660 2002-10-13 01:59:00 As you are running WindowsME, if the virus is in the System Restore area of windows you cannot delete it without first disabling System Restore. To do this try the following off memory:

My Computer (yours, not mine) Single Right Click > Properties > File System > Trouble Shooting > Place a tick in the Disable System Restore.

Reboot the computer.

Rerun your AVG virus program and this time it should pick up and remove the remaining BugBears.

Hope that helps you out.

88661 2002-10-13 02:21:00 Yes Gordon., that's exactly what I meant.

You Are A Legend.

And I'm sure that our friend, brendonny, will be glad to see some correct answers.

Now, can you help with my question? It has an interesting albeit somewhat random title. bRaZZiN wrote it. That's Me.

88662 2002-10-13 03:31:00 this thread should answer your problem, even if its not the same virus, the principal is the same.
