89158 2002-10-14 11:26:00 Lately I am having trouble saving as in Word. I can have a Word document open and decide to save it under another name, but when I click on 'save as' in the menu, the document stays on screen but the save dialogue box doesn't come up. Instead there is a flashing orange bar with the original file name sitting with the icons at the bottom of my screen. When I click on it, the document disappears and I have to click on that bar to bring up the dialogue box. It then allows me to save the document. A 'friend' came around recently and cleaned out obsolete files on my computer - at one point Word disappeared completely off my Start menu, but he found it under All Programmes and restored it. Has this done something to Word, if so, how do I stop this problem and put everything back to how it was before? If not, what is causing this annoying problem? Help please! write-click (2248)

I have had a look at the Microsoft Knowledge Base (http://support . microsoft . com/) and can located this or similair problem .

My advice would be to . . .

insert the office Cd and Run Setup .
you will automatically be fronted with the office Maintenance mode .
From here choose 'Repair Office' .

This will reinstall word and/or any other office app you have installed .
Doing this will not delete any of your saved documuments .

Thanks

89160 2002-10-16 21:57:00 Thanks Jess, I actually ended up doing a complete reinstallation which seems to have fixed the problem. After posting my query the other day, I noticed in properties that the last time I had used Word was November of last year - which seemed a little odd considering I had used it five minutes earlier! I figured whatever the "friend" did when cleaning up my computer had corrupted something (I had two Word listings in my start menu and he said he could get rid of one but 'accidentally' deleted both!), so thought that reinstalling seemed to fix every other problem I'd had so it couldn't hurt. I think I need to find out how to do all my cleanup/backup jobs myself so this doesn't happen again! write-click (2248)
