| 89118 | 2002-10-14 08:45:00 | I have purchased a PC with XP loaded as the OS. This OS does not allow me to use a certain communication program (DOS based) allowing me to link with a server at my place of work. This program works fine with Win 2000 but the cost of purchasing this new OS is high. I looked at the Win 2000 upgrade prices and one of the cheaper ones is an upgrade from NT4. I have a new set of NT4 software. Should I load this then upgrade to Win2000 or would the Win2000 upgrade (specified as an NT4 upgrade) work as an upgrade of XP?. I would prefer not to have to start from scratch again as I would have a lot of network set up to do all over again. Any help would be appreciated |

However you won't need to install NT4 first - you should be able to install the 2000 upgrade onto a blank hard drive (you'll need to format the XP disk first), and then some time during the installation you'll need to put in an NT disk just for verification - other than that you don't need it :) HTH Mike. |
