2002-10-15 23:17:00 | was listening (sort of) to an ad on the radio that said "star office is 100% compatible with MS office". is that TRUE?? i've got open office and its not quite fully compatible with MS office.

2002-10-15 23:47:00 | Ive found Open Office more useful than Star Office; 100% compatible with MS is stretching things a little bit OMHO. I still get the odd quirk but it is more with the spreadsheets than word pro. Open Office doesn't crash like Star did. I don't have MS the answer is ~42~

2002-10-16 00:01:00 | I'm not too sure on that tweak'e. I think it will be compatible to a point. Maybe the Word and Excel equivalents. But I really can't see them having a compatible Access alternative and the like. Also Star Office does cost now, I think. I don't think that 100% compatible will mean it comes with all the same fonts and bullets everything.

2002-10-16 00:19:00 | A friend used StarOffice, from what I saw, you'd be better off with OpenOffice.Org's Suite. I know for a FACT, that when he used it to design a website, it SUCKED! 3 pages took over 400KB, with about 2 small pics on each. I redesigned it and got it all up to 95KB! Apparently the Word Editor is good and compatible, no first-hand experience with it there mind you. BTW, This is not Gospel.... Just my HO..

2002-10-16 00:39:00 | Aren't StarOffice essentially OpenOffice also except you pay for support? I am using StarOffice on WinME and OpenOffice on Linux. Not sure what the difference are yet. :-)

2002-10-16 00:51:00 | OpenOffice is awesome for a freebie .... use it all the time, only problem I've found with the wp is that tabs sometimes don't convert properly in MS Word. | antmannz (28) | |
2002-10-16 01:16:00 | I use openoffice.org, it's pretty good. It's not exactly the same as staroffice. i believe openoffice.org was built from the source of one of the earlier versions of staroffice (?). they will move further and further away from each other though as the different versions come out if that was the case. i don't really care if it's not 100% compatible, if you've got your own printer, then there will be no need for most people to have 100% compatibility. unless you are doing business proposals or that stuff it doesn't really matter if the layout is a bit off anyway....

2002-10-16 01:35:00 | ABIword's pretty sweet, especially for small HDD's or older PC's. I personally use it though, and I've got a 933Mhz with room to spare on my HD! | Chilling_Silence (9) | |
