| 89648 | 2002-10-16 02:23:00 | I have Open Office org 641 that came on the CD with Imag around May-July. I found it great as I did not have Powerpoint & it has a neat Presentation programme. I think if you create something, then it is how you save it as, as to whether others can view it in a microsoft equilavent programme. Pauline. |

| 89649 | 2002-10-16 02:32:00 | Hwen I got my first PC, I wanted a spreadsheet app that could perform matrix manipulation (like excell does). I couldn't find a cheap/free on e, so I bought Office 2000. I have since stumbled accross bith Staroffice (Befoore and after it went pay), Office 602 Pro, and openoffice. Of the four, I prefer my Office XP (free upgrade), but had I found openoffice before I got 2000, let me say that it was good enough that I would never have got 2000. 100% compatible - maybe not, but pretty close. | 89651 | 2002-10-16 08:35:00 | Wot a great topic! Especially for me, as I don't want to buy Office x.x, but I'm tired of having to use MS viewers with my Office 95. But here's a point - it would be great if users of the free suites could rate them, preferrably against each other as well as against the premium (paid for) ones, without all the preamble - eg - Star 1'st, Office 2'nd, etc, or whatever. |

They also gave all of the old 5.2 code to OpenOffice. The compatibilty of version 6 is meant to be a lot better than 5.2 and I have found that 5.2 isn't tooooo bad with excel and word. There is also a database that was available for the 5.2, but I haven't tried to move my Access into it to test it. |
