| 89786 | 2002-10-16 04:20:00 | well i dont know whats up with it i know where to go in the reg to edit the settings manualy the bios picks it up as udma33 but damed winxp keeps sayin no no no npe noway you can have pio mode or multiword dma 2 and thats it problem is the drive works quite fine with the manualy edited reg to make it run at Udma33 ie: setting the timing mode to 0x00003310 instead of 0x00000410 and i've given myself the proper permissions to do so but as soon as i reboot the settings are back to multiword dma 2 this becoming very frustrating indeed so if you have a more perminant why to fix this problem please feel free to email me or to post here thank you system specs: Operating System: Windows XP (Pro) Version: 5.1.2600 Mother Board: BCM bc133kt-100 (Via 686b/kt133) Processor Type: AMD Duron(tm) 950MHz Physical Memory: 512MB pc133 sdram Hard Drive: C:\1xsegate baracuda 20gb D:\1x western digital 20gb CD-ROM Drive: E:\ACER 8x4x32 CDRW F:\Aopen 48xAKU Monitor: ViewSonic E653 Display Info: 1024 x 768 16777216 colors, 32-bit 85Hz Pointing Device: MS Itellimouse + Intellieye Network: DLink DFE530TX Fast Ethernet 10/100 Modem: Dynalink HCF V92 Lucent HV90 Sound Card: Creative Labs SBLive 5.1 Video Card: Leadtek GF4 MX440 Video Ram 64MB DDR |

| 89787 | 2002-10-16 04:31:00 | Graham L sorted me out with this... I had a printer attached that was "stealing" the DMA allocated for my cd-writer... I went into my bios and started fiddling around and changed the parallel port setting (IIRC) to "Normal" from "ECP and EPP" settings... See if there is something similar there... Lo. |

| 89789 | 2002-10-16 04:41:00 | Oh, and btw, I test the effectiveness of the DMA through something like "Nero CD-Speed" by testing DAE from an audio cd... if it's a smooth line which increases consistently, then your DMA is working fine... if it's staggered or hovers around the 12X mark, then suggestion would be that there is a prob with the DMA setting. | 89790 | 2002-10-16 11:07:00 | lohsing i tried the ecp printer thing still only have multiword dma 2 but the good news is that now its on for both cdr and cdrw ahwell suppose thats what ya get for buying a cheep ass mobo like bcm i think its about time i bought a new one had this this for 2 yrs now nothing but problems with it... yeah the 12x mark is about right for the cdrw but i get and avg of 22 odd for the cd-rom | xtremeXP (1946) | ||
| 89791 | 2002-10-16 11:10:00 | Try swapping the slave/master settings for your cd-rom and cd-writer... it could be that the writer might function better with the setting as master?? Short of that, I am all out of answers... Graham L helped me on this one, but I have an Asus P4S533 mobo... DMA probs occured with an upgrade to XP Pro... no probs under 98SE prior to that... Sorry about that, but that's about all the suggestions I have right now! Lo. |
