89466 2002-10-15 10:57:00 Just wondering..

Is there a thing out or around or even possible to use to "disconnect" the internet at a specific time..

Say u have a download going all nite..and knowing ur not suppose to..and u want to have the internet cut off at a specific time..say 2-3am after 3 hour download when no one is using computer...then it would do that...
Is that even possible?

89467 2002-10-15 11:11:00 Doesn't IE have an option to disconnect if idle? From memory it ignores the fact that a download is in progress and only checks for input from the mouse or keyboard. If it doesn't see any of that type of input it will diconnect.

Soooo, if you set the disconnect if idle to say three hours theory says that it should disconnect.

89468 2002-10-15 11:24:00 Most download managers will do this (DAP for example does). Gives an option to disconnect after a download, or at certain times or whatever. Can also shut down the computer if you want it to.

89469 2002-10-15 19:16:00 Most ISP's have an idle disconnect in place which will disconnect your modem after a period of no activity usually about 20 mins.
You can easily check if this is working.

89470 2002-10-15 19:24:00 My Web Time internet connection timer will disconnect from the internet at a time chosen by you. It will not close your PC down though, so Mike's option may be the best one if you want to do that. Susan B (19)
89471 2002-10-15 19:32:00 The problem is that IE's auto disconnect only works across the http protocol. Downloads usually use ftp or other protocols which IE traditionally doesn't detect.

Have a look around Nonags (www.lisp.com.au) I think I've seen something there.

89472 2002-10-15 19:37:00 I can shut down my pc with a timer, theres one in power settings..right click desktop..properties and screensaver tab, then "power"
and it says when to turn off monitor/hard disk or hibernate...
And if i get a timer to disconnect..then i can set the computer to shut down hard drive 10-15 mins after internet disconnection or something..

am using winxp home by the way...
and downloads with kazaa....
