89851 2002-10-16 10:54:00 I was doing some work exp. at a PC repair shop. W98SE Setup froze at the HW detection stage of W98 Install.I first tried unplugging the PC & plugging it back in, still continued to hang for a long time. A Tech said to remove HW items & see if that fixes it, basically isolation to find the guilty piece of HW, while the MS Support site suggests
support.microsoft.com As I am trying to learn more about the trade, has anyone got any advice on what would be the best solution for this scenario. Thanks.

89852 2002-10-16 11:24:00 ok the tech who told you to remove all hardware but the esentials correct in his advice take out the modem the sound card and leave only those things absolutly esential to installin also make sure you are not over clocking also turn off the bios's boot sector virus protection and how long does it stop for have you thought to just leave it for an hour and see if it was just have trouble figering out what something is also need more info

89853 2002-10-16 21:53:00 You could try 98lite

www.litepc.com

I heard of something like that, and xtremeXP has given some sound advice that I would too suggest, however, should you still have problems, look into this. Never actually tried it myself, so It'd be good to hear from somebody who has done 98Lite. I think Tweak'e has, but I'm not sure.

Anyways, Check it out.

Hope that helps
