| 89912 | 2002-10-17 02:48:00 | Oh yea, my mistake about SVCD, for some reason i thought it was only an audio standard, but pictures can be put to it also. Pioneer receivers aren't too bad. Check our reports on different types of receivers, as it will determine the clarity of the sound. |

A pc based system is probably more versatile though. I have both. I prefer the dedicated dvd player in my lounge. It fits in with my av gear. You pays ya money, ya takes ya choice. |

| 89917 | 2002-10-18 02:57:00 | If u desire, high performance. One or the other is not gonna be more expensive. Cos its either music equip for the TV or for the PC. Your laptop/PC will be another unit be it, u use email or just connect it to the TV, u will still have the computer. ie. TV, muscial system, DVD + PC for ur own things ie. TV, musical system, DVD + PC for DVD and own things. Standalone is gonna be cheaper cos u will be able to downgrade to a CDRW or CD .. well DVD ROM is not pricy that much. So could downgrade the music card by sticking to speakers via the stereo. This is assuming u will have a TV and a PC. If u are gonna forgo TV for monitor ..means a diff story. I suggest u move away from the TV music equip and towards real music equip bought away from normal appliance stores .... the real musical stores. Thus it workes in ur PC and the TV/Stereo etc ... .... I prefer standalones .. it caters enof formats. Looks nicer, no bootups, no fan noise. Just lie back on a couch with a remote. Rayonline |

| 89918 | 2002-10-18 03:04:00 | Get a TV u like, a stero + speakers u love, maybe a receiver, DVD via PC or standalone unit and u are away. So either u choose PC DVD or standalone DVD. U can choose TV or PC screens ..... then u will prob need a smaller screen for ur own work. All up to you! |

| 89919 | 2002-10-21 11:15:00 | Ok then... now, how about an X-Box with a home theatre package?? Like getting a decent dts receiver and building it up from there... from what I've heard, the X-Box plays Divx, and DVD... also has S-video out and dts out for sound too! :) Thoughts, comments?? |

| 89920 | 2002-10-21 11:19:00 | Ooh ooh ooh!! :D Sony Playstation 2 does the same.... Found this (www.audiovideo101.com) site! :) Now the question... PS2 or X-Box.... Hehehe ;) |
Lohsing (219) | ||
| 89921 | 2002-10-21 20:28:00 | With a PS2 you are still going to have the same problem with fan noise. I don't know much about the xbox so cant comment, but i'd imagine it would be pretty much the same. However if you stuck it in your tv cabnet and had your speakers up a bit you wouldn't hear the noise. The quality coming out of them is the same as a dvd player though. So don't let that put you off. |
