| 90094 | 2002-10-17 05:36:00 | Thank God for System Restore! After downloading hours & hours of Windows XP security patches and updates, and then Service Pack 1, my computer started playing silly b's, with all sorts of things changing. For example my dial up settings disappeared altogether, and when I tried to set up a new internet connection via the wizard, all it wanted to know about was a broadband connection. All hell had broken loose. I admit too to being a settings tinkerer, so the fault may not have been all Microsoft's. I was experimenting with 'hibernation' which was a mistake. I may as well have just turned the thing off, as rebooting was the only way to restart. SO my Late Year Resolution is....... I will not tinker with my computer settings I will NOT tinker with my computer settings Thank God for System Restore :-) Cheers Richard |

| 90097 | 2002-10-17 07:03:00 | I'd never learn anything if I didn't fix things that aren't broke.... in this context, the 'i' in fix is replaced with a 'u' and the word is pronounced similarly to 'crux' :D |

| 90098 | 2002-10-17 07:38:00 | You have to fiddle! :O What's the point in having a PC if you don't fiddle? You'd learn nothing about it and it would be just a tool instead of a toy as well. :D Just keep good backups and good system restores and you'll be right. ;-) |

| 90099 | 2002-10-17 07:51:00 | Thanks for your advice guys (including Susan B), but I've hade 5 computers since a C64 in 1983, and I still don't understand fully what I am doing when I tinker with them. The results are more random, than anticipated, which puts them in a similar category to women, I guess. Cheers Richard |
