1318130 2012-12-13 19:53:00 Recently my Dell Inspiron 580 desktop computer has been having several issues. When ever you turn on the computer after login on the computer shows a black screen with no desktop icons or task bar. I resolved this the other day by buying a new harddrive and after reinstalling windows 7 with no other aplocations and no Internet accesss at happened again after a reboot. What is wrong with it, I've tried opening explorer.exe on run but it says there is no such item avalible to run. Please, has anyone had the same problem and how do you fix it? Bennykjabs (16973)
1318131 2012-12-13 20:27:00 Hi Benny. Did you reinstall all your drivers also? CliveM (6007)

1318134 2012-12-16 00:15:00 It still won't work properly.

Now comes the major update:
When i now try to turn on the computer it starts to load the dell boot screen but stops halfway. The power light flashes red on startup. It repeats this Step until switched off at the wall plug. All cords in the computer are in properly but the fans ( CPU and external fan) don't start up.

Any reason why this had happened and is this linked to my blak desktop.

Pctek your way didn't help.

1318135 2012-12-16 00:35:00 its possible you have a hardware problem.
With the fans not working at all, sounds more of a motherboard problem as the power is not getting to them. If you changed the Power Supply that would eliminate or confirm it as being working.

1st thing you can do is unplug the PC, then unplug the Main power plug ( 24 Pin) and remove the CMOS battery, leave it to drain any built up power, 15- 30 minutes should be plenty.

Plug everything back in, if it still wont boot but you have the flashing light, you may have a failing Power Supply or Motherboard.

Dells Power light descriptions (support.dell.com) and here as well MORE (support.dell.com).

"If" you have a hardware problem that will certainly be a cause for the black Screen.

Thanks. My motherboard was failing so buying a new one fixed these problems
