1292613 2012-08-03 12:35:00 A local group in Chch who are trying to develop a museum have been told by Te Papa they will not get any support unless they have a Maori on their committee. I would have thought people on your committee would be the best people for the job based on their expertise etc, not by their race. I have asked them to get it in writing - so we wait and see. 1292615 2012-08-04 00:42:00 A friend was telling me a similar story about the Apartheid movement in SA, his daughter was in a Gymnastics team and like most teams competing on national level they had to have a certain % of Native South Africans present. Nothing wrong with that but there were not always going to be enough national level Africans to around as it were. It ended up they were landed with a few novices.

The problem here, and there is that you end up forced to have people who are unqualified and not the right people for the job.

Comments already when the OP hasn't posted any further proof of the allegation. The groups chairperson will be contacting Te Papa to get it in writing.... if I am able to obtain a copy of it, I will post it. However I'm learning that similar scenarios are not all that uncommon it seems. ie: A group who wanted funding to rebuild their hall that was rotting around their ears were turned down because the group did not have a suitable number of Maori in their membership.

1292619 2012-08-04 04:57:00 Might as well pay the $30 and recover the data while its in there, I'd not let it out of your hands again until this has been done. Metla (12)

1292622 2012-08-04 06:20:00 The NZ museum is full of that kind of thinking.

I know a couple of European egg heads that work there, they simply go along with this idea that nothing can be done without maori input.

They both disagree with it all, but that is where their income arises.
