1292582 2012-08-06 05:54:00 Anyone happy to live under a HV power transmission line ? That's got no proof that it causes cancer but people get upset about it and chose to take the cautious approach...why ? because it directly affects them, its the me vs us as always.

Actually yes, I have a pylon in my front lawn 110KV up there I believe. I've been here since '99, haven't grown any extra appendages or developed any mysterious diseases or cancer. Radiation readings indicate the average clock radio sitting beside many peoples beds is a far higher source of EM radiation than a pylon is, going to throw yours away?

I'm all for cleaning up our act and reducing pollution etc, that's just good sense. I just don't know if climate change is something we can really alter. If you really want to reduce humanities effect on the planet stop breeding, the real issue is too many people.
It doesn't take a genius or a profit to predict that if the worlds population continues to grow at it's current rate disaster is coming. Nature tends to right itself and technology can only stave that off so long, finite space + finite resources = finite number of people that can survive. We can't keep expanding forever.

And in a rare occurrence of at least partial agreement with Metla, the planet will go on just fine without us when we eventually become extinct.

Don't worry - it won't be everyone. Just the people who believe whatever drivel is served up by the media to sell newspapers.....

1292589 2012-08-07 07:22:00 Oh dear it seems we have a low luminance Globe in our midst that is gullible to boot. :groan:

I suppose he got sucked in by the Media hype on the Aids Virus too. Remember how human life was almost at an end because the Aids Virus was going to be spread by mosquitos. Well the Earths population hasn’t decreased despite the mosquito’s best efforts.

Then there was the Y2K hoax that had people filling their baths with water, stockpiling food and expecting their toilets to overflow because water was going to run up hill. Yes aeroplanes were supposed to fall out of the sky and even the magnetic poles were supposed to reverse.

The Government even appointed a Y2K Commissioner who was still employed a year later waiting for something to happen. It seems Mother Earth hadn’t heard of the Gregorian Calendar and carried on as normal. ;) The biggest news story of the time was that a Video Store in America had lost its data base. The news item went on to say that the data base was designed by a local school boy who popped down and fixed it.

Since then we have had Epidemics escalate to Pandemics like Bird Flu and Swine Flu which both turned out to be non events despite the Media Hype. The Drug Companies filled their pockets though and laughed all the way to the bank.

And so it goes on, with the gullible getting sucked in by Media Hype and Governments preying on them. Regretfully, with the Global Warming hoax our Politicians have seized the opportunity to escalate Taxes which they will dutifully waste.

But worst of all is the rubbish that that our children and grand-children are getting indoctrinated with at Pre-school and Primary School level.
