1293665 2012-08-09 01:24:00 The majority of downloads is from customers work, doing updates downloading programs, add to that 1 wife, ( NO I didn't download a wife  ) 1 teenager playing online games and watching youtube clips it all adds up. Then of course theres downloads of programs from MS - Eg;windows 8, office previews etc. wainuitech (129)
1293666 2012-08-09 01:30:00 Yep, I understand, thanks for that. Online games and youtube, etc I can see would push it up. Ta. Iantech (16386)
1293667 2012-08-09 01:37:00 I've got 200gb and I haven't yet broken 100gb I don't think, not even when I downloaded 35gb of my little pony stuff in like a week, and a fair number of new steam games. 8ftmetalhaed (14526)
1293668 2012-08-09 01:59:00 I have a 100 gig with Sling....

I had 10 left and kept getting reminders that had used my allocation.

Kept seeing this and thought why do they keep repeating themselve, in fact each reminder was cost $5, ended up paying $70 extra.

Rang to find out what was afoot, seems it was uploadind from utorrents.

Never done it b4 .

1293669 2012-08-09 02:12:00 thats why i changed to unlimited, 150Gb/mnth wasnt enough. it is surprising how much youtube and skype use. My daughter could use 10gb in a weekend by herself easy. And my son who has autism loves to watch movie credits so youtube is going constantly. He also likes to watch rachel ray and constantly streams her shows... Gobe1 (6290)
1293670 2012-08-09 02:21:00 Just be careful, speeds on their Unlimited pool fluctuate *wildly* to say the least!

Thanks Chill. Their ndsl speeds on the plan I was on were pretty good, so hope they don't suddenly drop on the unlimited plan.
The reason I changed was, we had started to exceed our cap every month for the last three months or so. Can blame Youtube mostly.

1293671 2012-08-09 02:35:00 Yeah when I download ARMA II (For DayZ) on my PC, there goes 25GB straight off the bat. I then reinstall Windows this month, there goes another 1.5GB on updates alone, another 25GB on ARMA II, another 3GB on DotA2. TeamFortress2 is another 8GB, and Assassins Creed Revelation was on sale on Steam so I bought that, it's another 11GB I believe?

My wife missed a few TV episodes of Shortland Street, she watches them all online. I wanted to see Campbell Live about Kim Dotcom, there goes another few hundred MB...

It's *incredibly* easy to blow through a hundred gigs a month!

LL,
You'd be surprised, basically their "Capped data plan" vs "Unlimited data plan" share different allocations of data. They lump all "unlimited" users together on the same bandwidth pool, which can degrade speeds dramatically at times. Because the "capped" users pay-per-GB, they offer quite a bit better service and speeds...

1293673 2012-08-09 02:52:00 Streaming media, video conferencing, and various other things bump it up. inphinity (7274)
1293674 2012-08-09 05:32:00 I was on xtra's unlimited plan last time they offered it but quickly discovered I couldn't game over it and switched back to a capped plan.
Now I'm on a 120GB plan and can't use it, and I really do try :) I grabbed a lot of games from the steam sale, watched youtube quite a lot, play WoW more than I should, Downloaded several different linux distros, and I just don't get through it.

The crazy thing with xtras 120GB plan is there are no cheaper options worth considering, you have to drop back to 40GB to save $10 and there's nothing in between.
All of which just reminded me I need to cancel quickflix.
