1293427 2012-08-06 23:38:00 Can anyone see anything? Ash, smoke, flying rocks etc. Some photos would be good. Iantech (16386)
1293428 2012-08-07 00:08:00 Nothing as yet as the Mountain is still enveloped in cloud

If you keep a eye on Geonet www.geonet.org.nz you may get to see something when the weather clears

Looks like there is some fresh activity on the Volcano Drum in the last hour
They had the Head of Geonet on Radio NZ this morning and they have no idea of what is going to happen but said the likely hood of more activity is high and either go on for Months even years

Just found some new pic's www.sunlive.co.nz

I got photos :) Nothing impressive put them on my facebook page.

The ash fall is currently very localised at ground zero, pretty much a few kms up SH46 and the Desert road from Rangipo and thats the area it has fallen. I just come back from Turangi on SH46 so know what I am refering to. The media circus is in town and wicked me sent a crew off to a better location on the desert road to film from, forgot to tell them how foggy it was at that location.....ooops.

1293430 2012-08-07 08:36:00 The Maoris will be saying it's a sign that the gods are not happy that the gov hasn't given them the water ownership.. Ritual war dance and money changing hands to follow..

My first thoughts actually.......

1293431 2012-08-07 09:18:00 As Maori claim the volcano is theirs, I look forward to the count cases sueing Maori for damaging productive farm land and forestry, cruelty to the animals exposed to the ash (and have to eat crunchy grey grass), contaminating rivers and steams, decimating fish stocks. I'm sure there would be a few more as well. Hell, NZ might even be able to get a few million returned. Iantech (16386)
1293432 2012-08-07 10:08:00 That dust looks like horrible grey snow. Saw on the news tonight where it had to be hosed off the roof, car and boat before it set like cement. It must get into everything. Bobh (5192)
1293433 2012-08-07 10:20:00 Pretty much it does Bobh! I remember clearing the guttering out on the Turoa ski area buildings in 1996, it was solid. I asked the guy who was helping how it had been done the year before and his response was had not been touched 12 months later pretty much solid.

Not just that it is corrosive, gets in everywhere and in vehicle air filters it is not good. My Air Filter was taken out this afternoon as a precaution and replaced. During the Ruapehu eruptions I managed to crash a car as a result of ash ingestion to the engine resulting it stuck open throttle linkage. Not nice going into a corner on a bridge to find the gas pedal was stuck.

1293434 2012-08-07 10:39:00 The fall out is drifting south, no visible ash/particles here but a definite smell of sulphur in the Wairarapa.

Not a nice one for engines either that volcanic ash, it's a very coarse grain that should get stuck in air filters but it will clog them fast. Best to check and dust them out (if they are still good) until ash stops getting kicked up. Avoid flying in it too unless you really want a problem, the ash would clog the engine, grind the props strip off paint and frost your windscreen. Exciting stuff if you want a challenge!

1293435 2012-08-07 10:58:00 If you look at the TVNZ photo gallery it shows a cloud formation not an ash cloud thats associated with the weather system thats coming in. We call it the rangataua pet because it anchors itself over Rangataua near Ohakune! Of course it shows up on the day of the eruption and some assume its an ash cloud. coldfront (15814)
