| 1316937 | 2012-12-06 23:50:00 | Have a business wanting to move to Google for Business free version - less than 10 users. Issue is all staff currently have a personal Google account using the business domain name. So 8 staff have username@domainname.co.nz Google user accounts but as persoanl accounts. If I setup Google for Business with the domain name how does this affect the current user setup? They use Google for calendars and syncing. The thought now is to move email to Google as they are with Telecom Office mail and it went down for 3 days recently which no business can handle. If this is to hard to sort then I will use the mail services from the domain hosting account as the domain will be transfered from Telecom. |

| 1316938 | 2012-12-07 01:28:00 | It's been a while since I set this up, but from memory Google will give you the option to force them to migrate their personal accounts to a new address (typically a GMail one). They've made a lot of changes since I last did this though - so you may want to check if it's possible to merge them. |

But reading Google support about migrating the current accounts I think I will just use the domain email. Google say that cuurent accounts don't migrate, just the user name changes and the data stays with the new username. That means re configuring all the users and I'm not doing that just to get email away from Office mail. Thanks for the posts. |

They still offer free domain email & at a quick glance, it seems a lot better than Hotmail but I haven't used it enough to make a comparison with Gmail. You can use the mail fetcher (support.google.com) within Gmail to manage your emails from outlook emails. Also there is a work around to sign up for free Google Apps using their App Engine. Since the goal here is to get away from Telecom's Office Mail and since personal Google accounts are being used as already posted, what recommendation do people have to work forward. At this stage I plan to transfer the domain name away from Telecom and host else where. Setup email on the domain hosting and configure Outlook clients to pop or imap. Other ideas? Office 365? |
