| 90441 | 2002-10-18 08:01:00 | This idea was suggested to me by SamH; and I just want to get peoples opinions on it. I currently have an excellent and fast php chat room operating at http://www.desktop.net.nz , (Which SamH liked). If I was to register a domain; say chatf1.co.nz/chatf1.net.nz and link it to a chat room dedicated specifically to pressf1 users, no ads or popup rubbish, just like the chat room at http://www.desktop.net.nz . Would people use it? If you think it a great idea then I could have it running by midday tomorrow (just after domainz zone file build at 11AM, because it always late!) then let me know! If you think the idea is crap and no one would use it, then let me know and my business wont fork out the $40 on domain registration! What do YOU think. Cheers Liam (off to dinner now) |

But to keep it free... it will need money, and probably not viable for PCWorld to upkeep, however if you're willing to donate, be prepard for a bandwidth demand. I'm sorta 50 / 50 sitting on the fence on this. It's a nice idea but I doubt I would participate. |

| 90443 | 2002-10-18 10:57:00 | At present I have about 10GB/Month bandwidth and about 70 Megs available to store data, and lets face it text posts arent exactly big. As for keeping it free, thats not a problem, It would just be hosted on my business server which is funded by my web-design customers who virtual-host on it, so there no problem there. Live PC help; sounds interesting, the idea was to complement the PF1 system, which I fully support (user have helped me out many times and I really appreciate it). Great to get your opinion. Cheers. Liam. |

| 90445 | 2002-10-18 11:32:00 | You evil person... how will my computer cope with 2 pages permanantly open? :D How will i get anything done? :D That was my attempt at sarcastic wit... which i know i'm too tired to pull off. Its a great idea.... Just let me know what domain you end up using. I personally like .net.nz my self. I suspect that it would get used in great wollowing waves when something happens and we "meet" in the room. |

Even desktop.net.nz/chat would be OK. *tries to think of bad domain* www.freeonlinenewzealandbasedlivepchelp.co.nz :D |

| 90449 | 2002-10-18 12:00:00 | Glad people think its a good idea. I will try and get things sorted and maybe we can be online tomorrow. How does www.chatf1.net.nz sound? Hope fully this get through my phone lines are currently out here (always happens when we get heavy rain, telecoms never learns!) and have been for some time, I have two lines and they are sequentially failing, I get 1 min on one line, then have to switch to the other line, when that fails I have to revive one of the lines by dialling lots of digits on the corded phone, and to think I pay $70 a month for the fun of it! Thanks for the input. Liam |

| 90450 | 2002-10-18 12:02:00 | >Yeah I reckon .net.nz always has a better ring to it in a lot of cases as well. Particually when dealing with networking and/or comunication based sites. O yeah i like the idea of it having as much individual identity as possible, who knows how long pressF1 is going to be here for, the net is a fickle place. Are we allowed to invite other from outside F1 to it? |
