90787 2002-10-19 09:50:00 I just had problems with Norton Internet Security 2003 giving me the BSOD after installing it. I couldn't get to the login screen without the BSOD so I thought I'll go into Safe Mode and see what I could do to resolve this problem.

Since it only happened after I installed Internet Security I knew it was related to that. I thought I would uninstall it... so I go to add/remove programs and click on Norton Internet Security, click on remove and I get a message saying something about the uninstaller is not going to work if I'm running in safe mode (not exact message but basically what it told me). I was like WTF, if I can't uninstall NIS to get back to normal windows I would have to fix the problem from Safe Mode. Since I didn't boot up in Safe Mode with Networking I had to restart the computer and choose Networking.

I got the network running so I decided to search Symantecs Knowledge base for the problem. Found things about NIS doesn't like RAID controllers also found the fix for this problem by going into Device Manager, showing hidden devices and then clicking on Non PnP Devices. Find the device called SYMTDI enter properties click on the Driver tab change the Startup type to Automatic and that fixes the BSOD problem.

Now I'm not sure how helpful safe mode is if I can't uninstall programs. The problem is... I use safe mode when I run into problems and sometimes the best thing to do is uninstall the software that caused the problem in the first place but in this case I was left to search through a long database just to find a fix. I spent half and hour reading through it all till I came upon an Answer. I'm still thinking about the reason why I can't uninstall NIS in safe mode. It's not running in safe mode so it must have something to do with the installer they made.

It's all I have to say about Safe Mode. Hope you guys don't have problems with NIS2003 like I did.
