90708 2002-10-19 03:23:00 I recently had a disk with windows 95 on it. I formatted it, and installed windows 98 on it. I did this and windows 98 runs really slow on my pentium 75. I want to go back to windows 95 with my original settings. I know i could just format it again and reinstall windows 95, but i want to unformat it and get the whole lot back again. Does anybody know a free program that can do this without any hiccups? Young Whiz Kid (2051)
90709 2002-10-19 04:00:00 If you are suggesting all your previous programs, windows system files etc are still there to be used, then sorry but you have written over all the locations with your install of windows 98.

You will need to reformat and install.

90710 2002-10-19 04:03:00 I'm sure you have to fdisk it and reinstall '95.
What was '95 and is now '98 cannot be reverted back to '95 any other way, esp. with freeware, shareware or open source.
Good luck finding something though, as it may be out there?:)

90714 2002-10-19 04:41:00 Have in the past used tools like Fast File Recovery approx $US200, and also Winternals Software - Disk Commander $US300
I personally prefer Winternals tools; they have an Administrator Package of all their tools for $US700. There are other tools available, I guess you could cruise the net.

I havent seen a freeware version that's worth considering!

Cheers, Babe.
