90690 2002-10-19 00:25:00 I have XP and Me on two computers with Word2000 on both.
Is there anyway I can combine 45 different files into one.
ie I dont want 45 files in one folder ---- I want to make one file out of 45 so it can be opened and read as one.

90691 2002-10-19 00:30:00 I think you need to be a little more specific.
Are you talking about 45 different Word docs?

90692 2002-10-19 21:21:00 Yeah is it possible to take 45 ( in this case) word DOCs and combine them in to only 1 word DOC.
The end result being that I no longer have 45 to open seperately ---- only one new one which contains the contents of the previous 45

90693 2002-10-19 21:55:00 hi,

yes word lets you combine word documents into one.

Open a new word document, or the document you shown first. Go to the bottom of the document, and select from the menu, Insert --> File.

This brings up a dialog which you select the file you want inserted. If you want the new document to reflect any changes in the original make sure you select "insert as link". I'm not sure if you make changes in the combined document, these will be made to the original however.

You will need to repeat this for each of your 45 documents. Also note that if you have all of the files linked, rather than embedded in the document, opening the document could take a long time.

Hope this helps.

90694 2002-10-20 00:31:00 I can't think of any non-time consuming way to do it, but if it were me this would be my procedure:

1. Open either a new document or the document to be the first one, go to the end of the text and start a new page or section.

2. Open the second file, highlight all the text (Ctrl+A), copy it (Ctrl+C), go back to the first document and paste the text (Ctrl+V). Save document.

3. Return to that second document, close it and delete to recycle bin.

4. Repeat from 1. again until all documents are added.
