90641 2002-10-18 21:30:00 Hi all, was wondering if somebody could assist me with a small prob - I am just venturing into the world of webpages and making mine etc...?:|, however i haven't had as much time as i had hoped to do the full research and learn the ins and outs. I had a really basic project to do, consisted of a Poem with a background Pic, I ended up making it in word and saving as a webpage, but when i uploaded it the background pic won't show, i get the little box with the red X in the top right corner instead of the background pic, i tried making it in different programs and in the end the only way i could make it to show the background was using the page builder off the site and starting from scratch, however i couldn't use the font i wanted - Anyway i know that this is something really basic i am missing to get the background pic to show, can anybody tell me where i am going wrong please :-( I have noticed if i get this red box with the X on sites i go to quite often a page refresh will solve it, but that isn't the case here.
Also i am using XP and thought i would use word to do this (basic pages)cause i am familiar with it while i am at the learning stage, should i use something else instead to make my pages?

90642 2002-10-18 21:40:00 The image itself has to be uploaded to the server, and a correct path to it specified in your img tag. I'd strongly suggest you use a dedicated webpage creator - the best free one I've seen comes with Netscape - download version 7 and use Netscape Composer. Greg S (201)
90643 2002-10-18 21:47:00 word makes really crappy web pages.

1st page (http://www.evrsoft.com/) is quite handy.

otherwise post the codeing or a url to your page :)

90644 2002-10-18 22:27:00 Thanks guys, so basically its Word that isn't the best, i had heard that about Word before to be honest, but used it cause it was a basic page i was making and thought it would be quickest. I might give Firstpage a go then. I have got no understanding of coding etc... yet so have heaps to learn!!!! Thanks J ZEP (336)
90645 2002-10-18 23:05:00 Hey there JZep I would recommend this site to learn Lissa Explains (http://www . lissaexplains . com)

HTML is very easy to learn and this is the place I started . Have a browse through there and a play with notepad and you'll be set . You should then have enough knowledge to search for tutorials on the specific coding techniques that you want .

A few other good sites are . . .

HTMLHelp BBS ( . htmlhelp . com/bbs/" target="_blank">www . htmlhelp . com)
The HTML Source ( . angelfire . com/nm/thehtmlsource/index . html" target="_blank">www . angelfire . com)
HTML Tutorials ( . bfree . on . ca/HTML/" target="_blank">www . bfree . on . ca)
