You just change whats in the subject feild to what you want when you post.. most people cant be bothered, or dont know they can.

All...
Can some one tell me a practical way of getting the right voltages for running a CDR?. I'm thinking of doing that as a CDR is about the right rack size for using in a concert sound system, which uses all 19" rack stuff idealy.

Errr... No. I actually have the same access to the forum side of Pf1 as you do.

I have admin access to the server, but not the forum.
I need somebody like bruce to make me admin before I get the little icon next to my name and have extra rights.
I needed to have access to the server when it was going down so I could bounce it from home, thats all :-)

Im just glad that PF1 all seems to be up still :D

Look here (www.bettanet.net.au) for a fully working CD ROM drive to car system, plus all the details for the power supply.

Clueless, you don't need the RFC shown if its not in a car. A good grunty source of 15v - 18v DC at a couple of amps would be needed (smoothed supply, not 1/2 wave DC)

90618 2003-02-04 01:52:00 A few Points:
1 . A CD rom wont work well in a car because of the vibration!

2 . A CD rom is great quality and using it in a big system works well and
sounds Great! (Remembering that you cant see what track you are on!)

3 . A CD rom does need 5 volts and 12 volts to operate but it shouldn't matter if these vary, etha up or down a little!

4 . If 240 volts is available using an old PC power supply is best!
NOTE: You have to start the power supply with the CD rom already plugged in because, a switch mode power supply such as one out of a PC needs load to start!

5 . If your power source is 12 volts you can use a LM78L05 Voltage regulator to get your 5 volts!

6 . If your power source is higher than 12 volts you can use a LM78M12 Voltage regulator to get your 12 volts, and a LM78L05 Voltage regulator to get your 5 volts!

7 . A commen problem with CD roms not opening is that the brushes in side the moter that drives the draw are getting warn . . . This is easily fixed using some thin brass!
