91112 2002-10-20 08:05:00 I'm running windows 98 se2 & office 2000. Why do all of the office applications close as soon as the blank page has shown on screen. Any ideas ? clearview (1550)
91113 2002-10-20 08:57:00 Please refer to your previous post dated 16 Oct and all those answers.

You are repeating the same question.

91114 2002-10-21 07:40:00 thats because they didn't work. The normal.dot file didn't exist clearview (1550)
91115 2002-10-21 07:44:00 Have you tried updating your Office 2000 to Service Pack 1?

Was this when it started happening?

Mike.

91116 2002-10-21 07:47:00 I had only had it installed for a couple of days. I was using word & all was working, i closed it off, exited office then re-entered it later that day. The computer had been switched off in between times. clearview (1550)
91117 2002-10-21 07:49:00 Now, don't take offence at the following................

Are you running a genuine copy of Office 2000 with a genuine serial number or are you possibly running a copy of Office or where the serial might not be exactly above board.

I have not seen your earlier message but what you describe can be a result of a copied Office 2000 and / or a now hot serial and you have might have downloaded the SR1 Office Upgrade Pack or other Product Update from MS which has blacklisted that serial.

As per my opening sentance.......don't take offence if the above is not correct, it is only a possiblity.

91118 2002-10-21 07:57:00 it's a genuine office install. I have had it for a couple of years. I have recently fdisked my hard drive & clean installed 98se2. I've done it a few times before with no problems. I'm just doing the service pack updates now. I'll post a message when complete one way or the other.
Thanks

Phil

91119 2002-10-21 08:47:00 I've installed service release 1. It made no difference. I've got norton utilities & have run windoctor. Made no difference either.

91120 2002-10-21 08:57:00 >>> The normal.dot file didn't exist

That's probably your problem then - normal.dot is needed for Word to run.

91121 2002-10-21 09:00:00 Clearview,

The problem I believe is definately a corrupted NORMAL.DOT.

You will have one (at least). To fix the issue you need to find it and delete this NORMAL.DOT file.

If you are running a single-user system then it will reside in the \Templates sub-directory under Program Files\Microsoft Office...

Search for it (normal.dot) and remove it. Then restart WORD

Cheers, Babe.
