91045 2002-10-24 03:04:00 A few of the mags are missing but I found the June one. The view makes me think the effort might almost be worth it.

Try Oct p187 (I seem to remember being asked to scan and touch up the photos for printing. For a disposable camera the photos are really good).

91046 2002-10-24 09:51:00 Trials bikes, huh? Now THAT is hard work! Is Alan your other half? Andy takes heaps of photos, some on a really cheap plastic camera that look just as good as any pro model! Most of mine are taken on a little Mu - it fits in my pocket and is waterproof - unlike my Nikon F5 which weighs around two kilos and half fills a pannier! Yes, the views on adventure rides are the best part - the Wellington one (next one in March 2003, not the Middle Earth one that was on earlier this month) is fantastic, think about it! And Blackhead - mmn, around 50 crayfish! write-click (2248)
91047 2002-10-24 20:03:00 Trial bike AND trail bike. Along with the kid's roadbike - and the 250 Yamaha that was sold a couple of weeks back - the garage looked like a spawning ground for bikes. The cars live outside.

Back in my tramping days I had Grandfather's old camera. Open it up and a small set of bellows protruded. Fitted nicely in a bush shirt pocket and took excellent photos. It finally made way for an SLR that had to go in my pack. Equally good photos but less of them.

Alan (my other half) has been on a number of Adventure rides in the last couple of years - Far North, East Cape... A group of them decided on an easier one - Waiheke - last weekend. I figured that was more my style, got to the bottom of the road, thought about the motorway, the windy road to get to it , the speed those guys go and how much I'd slow them down - and figured that practice was required first. Strange bike, 20 odd years...

No practice this week - have been finishing a website and other such computer orientated stuff. Am currently dog sitting for the boss so the 2 happy labradors could turn into 2 unhappy labradors if I desert them. Besides, the weather sucks!

91048 2002-10-24 20:37:00 Not sure if I should dip my toes in here or not because the problem hasn't been solved yet, but I can't help myself . :D

I had a little Honda CB125 for years that I bought when I was 14 from paper round money . Only rode it off-road until I got my licence at 15 but Dad borrowed it to run himself to work until then . With the huge increase in traffic and dopey drivers these days I'm not keen to get on another road bike again but back then it was bliss, even with such a slow poke .

I'll never forget going for a blat around to Diamond Harbour with my brother and doing a swap with his 650 . Man, the power!! He was like a good two km in front of me going flat out on my tiny bike so when we got to a straight bit of road, I opened the 650 up . Talk about fly - you should have seen the look on his face when I sailed past him! hehe

We've now got a couple of Honda XR dirt bikes, a 185 and a 250, for the kids and hubby but I still haven't had a chance to have a good go on one . Pretty nervous about it because I've never had much to do with dirt bikes and if the track isn't wide and obstacle-free I won't go on it, unlike the kids . They are total lunatics, haring around on them in the riverbeds like they were BMX bikes .

And yes Heather, they think it's been a good ride if they have to waterblast themselves down when they get off . :D

91049 2002-10-24 21:39:00 It's amazing how many women 'used to ride' Susan! I wish there were more of them, but I'm just as happy to ride with the boys! I wouldn't mind a dual-purpose bike so I can ride gravel as well as road, but the BMW F650CS took my eye at last year's Big Boys Toys Show (I spent an hour drooling over it and told John from BMW that was going to be my next bike!) and I had to have one! Maybe I can add a GS to the stable in a year or so? Trail riding doesn't really do it for me, mainly because of the huge number of riders at each event (around 400+), I'd rather go at my own pace. Andy wants a trail riding track when we move into the country next year - but I think he's going to be out of luck there! Maybe a little scooter racing track in one paddock! write-click (2248)
91050 2002-10-24 21:43:00 Susan,

Mine was a little Honda 125. Brilliant for what I used it for - commuting. Used to go in to Tech Friday night, wheel it into the corridor, lock the door and depart for a weekend's tramping. Sunday night there was my bike safe and sound and off I'd go home. Never any parking problems and 86 miles to the gallon ($1.76 for a full tank of gas!).

But sitting here with the dogs playing at my feet and a torrential downpour outside... there are advantages to staying home or using a car.

Not really . To start with there are kids . Babies in a front pack on a bike aren't cool! Then theres their friends, after school activities and the fact that until they are 14 you can't leave them home alone . Then the supermarket . . . Gradually life changes until bikes are not a part of daily life .

There's also the fact that wardrobes have changed . To progress in a career requires "image" (not that I conform to that one and it shows!)

Getting back to them later requires life style changes

91052 2002-10-25 05:20:00 hmm i see the topic has turned to motorbikes. I better join in here.

My first bike was an Honda XR-80 which I had out the sounds. That was great rode it all the time :D Also had a Suzuki 50 there so I didn't wreck the Honda while I was learning to ride ;)

Road bike was a Kawasaki 90 (2-stroke). That was great but it didn't go fast enough for my life. I kinda siezed it many a time untill it died completely one of the times :(

Yeah me too :D, I'm another female rider too, when i get the chance these days that is :-( , I 'm designated pillion these days - my partner wouldn't risk me riding his baby - lol. We are off on a club ride this weekend, Napier area, so hopefully the weather puts it on for us. I am supposed to be preparing now but just had to check into F1 for the day.
We've got a H.D, Fatboy 1340cc, which has been customised a bit to my partners liking. He also loves off road stuff too but doesn't do any these days, but still enjoys following it. I learnt to ride at the age of 13 - my uncle was kind enough to provide me with a little Gemini 80cc, which you don't see around these days anymore, actually there weren't many round then either :^O. I will have to dig out the Kiwi Riders and look you two up.
Writeclick your new bike sounds very nice, must keep an eye out for one - I can't picture that model and probably haven't seen one if you had to import it, sounds interesting.

91054 2002-10-25 07:27:00 Hmmmm . . . . maybe I should give it a go again . Although about the time the hurricane hit West Auckland this morning The Kid turned up and talked me into taking her to work this afternoon - via Uni - as she didn't fancy riding .

Two hours out of my day and stuck in pre-rush hour traffic on the North-Western motorway . She reckoned that even though the weather cleared (sort of) it was due to be rotten again Monday when she returns home .

So much for dedication .
