91240 2002-10-22 10:06:00 i play unreal tournament, doom2, quake, blah blah all the time. nothing BUT shoot em ups. i've yet to lay a finger on ANYONE excluding by two brothers ;) and i've sure never pulled a gun on them... seriously, never been in a fight...

articles like that are a joke.

the only things you can improve upon by playing games are your game skill. obviously if you play chess on a computer you will get better at playing it on a board too, but it doesn't teach you to protect the queen and king...

shoot em ups teaching you to kill people? ok then, whatever the media say....

91241 2002-10-22 10:13:00 notice too how the whole article supports the theory that games contribute, and then two sentences at the end -- note from someone of credibility -- oppose it...
let me see... 2 pages vs 2 sentences. now which are the general public most likely to remember...?

91243 2002-10-22 19:10:00 Hi again,
my theory about the sniper is that its some country guy whos been practicing shooting since before he could walk, and got a few hillbilly friends together, old style patriots and hate how the new generation works, and washington is closest or something. well theres my theory, i doubt its like a terriorist as in al quaeda, that sorta stuff isn't hard core terriorist styles, this is more physcological warfare, making people scared, i agree i would be damn freaked if people were randomly dropping (!)

p.s what issue of listener is the article about gamers in? i believe i'm more patient after playing games, and wanna read the articles ;)

91244 2002-10-24 10:20:00 You're so right there! I ride a motorcycle and have done a few track days/advanced riding courses, so I thought I'd be hot stuff on one of those grand prix motorcycle racing games. I sucked! I hit the wall and basically killed myself every time I tried! If I rode like that on the road, I'd be dead by now. I also co-drove in a rally car but I suck at those games too - in other words, doing it for real is what makes you good at something, otherwise we'd all be Peter Brocks or Aaron Slights. And as for violent games, I think the only reason there MAY be a connection between them and violence in real life is that perhaps people who enjoy hurting people/animals/etc. in real life also enjoy that type of game. But there are also some totally normal, sane people who also enjoy shoot-em-up games and will never go out and kill. It's how you are brought up that counts, although there are some rotten mongrels who come from fantastic homes and vice versa. Although I personally don't like guns, I certainly don't think people who go out clay pigeon shooting are going to gun me down! The problem is, weirdos rarely have 'weirdo' tattooed on their foreheads. Just about anyone can snap and it's not likely to be us leather-clad 'bikers' (god, how we women hate that term!), but the guy who slips the circular in your letterbox! write-click (2248)
91245 2002-10-24 10:48:00 I know what you're saying write-click. Just because you can do something somewhere, whether virtual or not, does not mean you can do it in other situations.

Sometimes Dad and I might play some rally games or something at TimeOut. He has no hope in hell of beating me. Go to Supa-Karts and it's usuallt slightly different.
