91230 2002-10-22 00:03:00 And of course there have always been, and probably always will be stupid mass killings..

how many witches was it that were burned?
how many blacks and jews did hitlers lads do in?

between those 2 indescrestions of church and state we have orginised serial killers with a total kill in 8 figures

Of course without video games to blame these killings would be done on God or Hitlers name....

One could argue that in these modern times with video games and other outlets for fustration, that the pointless killing rate has been shown to be DRAMATICLY reduced. With enough poorly researched statistics with biased and unscientific questions and so forth anything could be argued.
Campeigners are rarely interested in truth, just some-one or something to blame and remove as a cure to the worlds problems... a bit like that dude Jack who was "curing" the world of whores.......

I could go on, but whats the point?

91231 2002-10-22 00:07:00 Good point, Driving a car in V-Rally on my N64 is TOTALLY different compared to getting behind the wheel of a REAL car! Shooting using one of those G-Con guns in a playstation playing games is likely the SAME! I have an air pistol, and air rifle. I've also played Sniper Games at Time Out at the movies and the likes, I've also played many games on PSX and stuff, however, I can say that shooting a can in real life is totally different to all the electronic simulations. In the playstation games, I agerage a hit rate of about 45%, and I can fire off up to 100 bullets a minute in my prime, also reaching a max of about 70% accuracy. In reallife, It'd take me around 60 seconds to load the gun, take aim, and shoot the can. I usually get 80% of my shots, coz in RL, there's wind, and other such factors to take into account, the sights/scope might be slightly off. But no, Not in the game. All up, video games in my opinion are sometimes a deterrant. I asked a friend about 2 weeks ago why he likes destruction Derby, he said he played it coz he knew he couldn't do it in RL, so the game was his way of having fun doing it. Same for GTA and other racing games.

That my 2 cents worth anyways

Cheers

91232 2002-10-22 00:09:00 Hehe, good point about Hitler. Video games werent around back then. Yet today many people re-enact it. Yet its not happening in this world. If you ask me, its parents blaming something else for their bad upbringing of their children. Chilling_Silence (9)
91233 2002-10-22 00:30:00 When i lived on the West Coast, i would releive fustrations by taking the HQ holden, and throwing it round the back roads that were at that time publicly accessible in the Stockton mine area.. Its a buzz.. a REAL buzz those moments where that tonne and a ½ of metal is flying sideways and there is no control untill you've finished spinning the thing and pointing back where you came from and heading back, or what ever.
I'd plant boot just to really randomise the results.

OK, so my secrets out... i'm a bit of a retired petrol head.. I LOVE BIG cars, i like a V8. Video games?????? no interest at all..... Also on the public roads i am a nice driver...

Well that proves these things link doesn't it!?

91234 2002-10-22 01:47:00 Heh, since we're all on confessions..

I'm an avid racing sim fan - when I can I'll get a PS2 just for GT# and GT Concept. I have loads of really good (and some really suck) racing games for the PSX as well as PC, and yes, I have wheel / pedals.

In RL, I race karts, and dirt track / demo cars.

Lemme tell ya, both RL and racing games are fun. They are also a world apart. There is no way you can clock Gran Turismo then get into a hypo car and win Bathurst.

Yep I'm damn sure it's a parenting thing. Sham excuses though..

91236 2002-10-22 04:48:00 There are always going to be murderers and the like out there. It's not a video games fault. It's just that people will always do things like that.

In the case of the sniperer in the US. Most likely ex-SAS or similar.

91237 2002-10-22 06:19:00 Read the Listener article on gamers, it suggests that gamers are better people to employ. Makes a change.

Killing Klingons gets the nasties out of my system. If I didn't storm the beach at Omaha and bitchslap a few Axis troops I would be horrible and grumpy.

(my children might ask what would be different)

91239 2002-10-22 10:05:00 When I was 8 - 15 yrs old I went to the movies...

We saw the Lone Ranger and heaps of Cowboy type films. Sixguns usually held at least 55 rounds. Indians ( American Red ) fell over in droves. We saw heaps of cartoons where Wylie Coyote would get flat!!

Since then of course, I have seen heaps of stuff on TV.. Clint Eastwood ( make my day ).. Arnold Swarzeneger etc..

I have played doom, quake and counterstrike on my computer but prefer Flight Sims and Chess.

I'm 60 yrs old and been exposed to all the media that is supposed to turn you into a killer.

I haven't killed anyone yet.

I think the only time I could be provoked into doing it is if a person invaded my home.
