Avant Browser version 6.5.1.2 released (www.avantbrowser.com) How to Setup Windows 95/98/Me on a Windows 2000/XP system Bitbenderforums has posted a new guide for all newbies out there on how to set-up a dual boot system. Here's a snip from the article: I love Windows XP. Best version they've come up with yet, in my opinion. It makes setup of new computers and networks a breeze. But, it does have a few problems running some older programs that can't be solved by running them in compatibility mode. I did a quick search of Google, but was unable to find a definitive list of programs that have known compatibility issues. I did find 2, both utilities - PowerQuest's "Partition Magic 6.0" and Norton's "SystemWorks 2001". The program that I couldn't get to run in XP was "Easy CD Creator 4.0". The solution for me was to either buy upgraded software, or using the tools I had on hand, create another partition on my hard drive and install Windows 98 on that, in order to run the older programs. Not wanting to spend money to upgrade software that had worked well for me before, and having plenty of hard drive space, I chose the second option. Check the whole guide out here (www.bitbenderforums.com). Xp-erience has posted up a pdf file for download from a bloke called moonboy and created by Daniel Keller on how to optimise your Windows 2000/XP audio. Here's a clip: "Windows defaults to continual logging of Input and Output data to your hard drive. Disabling this will free up some resources. To disable performance logging, go to the Start menu and select Run. Type in diskperf -n and hit Okay. Write Behind Caching Windows defaults to write-behind caching, holding data in a memory buffer before writing it to disk. Disabling this function will increase your system performance by writing data immediately to disk. To disable this function, right click on My Computer and choose Properties, or open Control Panel and select System. Select the Hardware tab and click the Device Manager button. Click the 'plus' sign next to Disk Drives and select a drive. Choose Properties and uncheck 'Write Cache Enabled'. Repeat for all drives in your system." The guide covers heaps of important tips and tweaks. The CLE266 drivers are for Windows 2000/XP and Windows 9x and are WHQL certified whilst the KL133/KLE133/PLE133/MVP4 drivers are for Windows 9x/2000/XP/NT and do not have WHQL certification. New integrated VGA drivers for some VIA chipsets (www.viaarena.com) Diskeeper Lite, the freeware disk defragmentation utility for home PC's, version 7.0 build 418 has been released. This new release has the following changes: Changes to the main Diskeeper display to provide quick access to the Diskeeper scheduling options. Changes were also made to enable the Diskeeper installation to detect and correctly handle previous installations of Diskeeper Lite 7.0 Diskeeper Lite version 7.0 Build 418 out (www1.execsoft.com) A new version of FlashFXP 2.0 Final Build 902 is out with the following changes: When using the schedule to exit FlashFXP an error occurred preventing FlashFXP from closing. Loading the queue via the command line didn't automatically start transferring when combined with -tray or -min. If the left local view is set to My Computer, the right local view would not highlight the folder when changing to the parent. When changing to the parent, and the parent is My Computer, FlashFXP will now properly select the drive you came from. When first using FlashFXP a predefined window size was assigned to the Site Manager. This predefined size was too small when using large fonts or a DPI other than 96. New installs will not use a predefined size to eliminate this problem. FlashFXP uses a predefined window size when accessing the File Exist rule dialog via the Site Manager, as a result the window didn't display correctly when using large fonts or a DPI other than 96. If an upload is aborted FlashFXP may fail to resume the file after abort. You can load multiple queue's via the command line.. FlashFXP.exe queue1.fqf queue2.fqf queue3.fqf The alternative fxp routine has been replaced with a new method that is now compatible g6/bpftpd. In v2.0 View File was added to the local view popup menu and assigned the shortcut ctrl-v, unfortunately this shortcut conflicts with the standard explorer ctrl-v (paste) shortcut. In this build ctrl-v will paste and not view file. There is no shortcut assigned to View File in the local view. FlashFXP version 2.0 Final Build 902 released (flashfxp.ws) CuteFTP Pro version 3.0 beta has been released for download with fixes for the following list of issues: Launch Pro GUI from TE icon in systray not working Tile vertically of remote panes only shows logs A few minor icon, graphics and wording issues TE sometimes crashes when using ATI All-in-Wonder® MMC Column sizes aren't remembered between sessions Browser Tag Tips aren't remembered between sessions SSH2 connections to Cobalt RaQ4 server fail if data compression is on. Here's a snip of what they have dug up: Many thought that Nvidia will use 700 MHz to 800 MHz memory which is not true, at least for the fastest implementation of chip, as we expect several cards based on same core. The fastest NV30 will work on the nice round number of 1000MHz, bringing graphics memory to a 1GHz speed for the first time in history. Read more at the TheInquirer (www.theinquirer.net).
