90998 2002-10-20 02:59:00 The fan on my ASUS 3800 video card has become very noisy, and what's worse, it is intermittent, so I can't even get used to it!

I am capable of replacing it, but I need to find a source for the replacement. Does anyone know:

The ASUS distributor, or

A third party that might have suitable fans (Dick Smith doesn't).

TIA

Tony

90999 2002-10-20 03:16:00 This is the Asus Global Site (www.asus.com), I had a look and there is a Contact Asus page on there that you could use to send an e-mail to find a NZ distributor.

Hope this helps

91000 2002-10-20 03:31:00 If you're in Auckland, try C-Tech Computers (http://www.ctechpc.com) as they stock a lot of Asus products and would be able to help you out.

91002 2002-10-21 01:21:00 I just got a blue orb, used a fine hacksaw to take of the mounting lugs. I then took the clip from the original heatsink and flipped it over, removed the fan from the blue orb, put the clip under the fan and reattached it. Viola! a blob of thermal compound and a bit of squeezing, and you then have a new heatskink on your TNT2! Plus you then get fan speed feedback if you have an appropriate connector on your motherboard.

Oh yeah, you should be able to get a blue orb from most computer stores. You may be able to mount Dick Smith part :XH6436 on with a bit of modification, might pay to measure everything up before starting though.

91003 2002-10-22 02:56:00 Thanks everyone for your responses. I eventually found out that Renaissance are the principal ASUS distributors and got an "official" replacement from them for $22.50, including fitting it to the card!
